Ear Tipping

oh thanks. I will search the forum.
Most of it is wearing off now actually. I barely put any on, because the last time I glued her ears I put WAAAYY too much glue on.
 
When I finally took out Bacca's glue, I went on eBay (I think) and bought a product called Detachol...it's a medical bandage adhesive remover, so safe on humans (and therefore dogs) and doesn't smell nasty.

Worked like a charm! I got the name for the grooming book by Barb Ross, The Illustrated Guide to Sheltie Grooming (btw - get this book if you can...it's great!)
 
You can also buy Detachol from Amazon.com. That's where I get my supply from!

And a plus-it also removes pine sap!

I finally gave up on Tyler's ears. :( No matter how hard I tried, the little buggers didn't want to cooperate. So, we have Sheltie that has ears like Fozzie Bear.

Good thing he is cute!

Oh wow he is adorable! XD

Daphne came from the breeder with her ears glued down. They're just now starting to come unglued, but they seem to tip down naturally anyway. Is this normal, or will they eventually perk up on their own and I'll have to glue them down again?
 
From what I've experienced and been told, some will stay, but most will start to creep up again, so to be safe, I would re-glue if you want them to stay tipped.
 
:uhoh: I couldn't tell that there was anything wrong with Tyler's ears. I'm sure nobody's going to pay much attention to that anyway. He's so cute it won't matter.

They will most likely pop back up, If you want them tipped I would say reglue or if your breeder is close enough to you ask her if she can show you how to do it. Its not a hard process once you see it done, but just reading how to do it can seem a bit overwhelming! I would atleast keep them done until she is done teething, and after her first heat (unless your getting her fixed at say 6 months) that after she is spayed should be fine. I keep my intact girls done for the first year...atleast....sometimes longer...:rolleyes2:
 
I am still keeping Dusty's ears glued and he is 7 months old! better safe than sorry if you want them to stay tipped. I made the mistake of not keeping Belle's ears glued long enough. When she went into heat for the first time, one ear went up and will not stay tipped.
