Yes Birch is very fluffy compared to Toby. Since he isn't so puppy fluffy, you can see his true weight and plus he is becoming all feet and legs,

Trapp was very lanky at one point,plus with almost no coat whaen he was young.Gosh hardly looking like a sheltie at all. But one he hit a year old,and leveled out,he maintained his weight at 20#. Still at 20# and he was 2 in July.
Jasper,a differant build of a puppy. He was stockier,shorter legged,huge coat when he was a wee pup. He continued to change almost before our eyes in coat,stockiness. But he hit a year old,he got shorter...yep shorter. His chest leveled out.At one time he lookede like he had some massive "junk in his trunk"...
He still at 2 (in Nov) weighs 21#. He has weighed that for so long,I can't even remember.
I do think the activity level here plays a huge part in thier weight.They are non stop,till they crash at night. They are only fed 1c for the day.(1/2 in morn~1/2 at night.)

My puppy Denali is 16 weeks old & weighs 7lb-9oz. I am thinking he's just over 11" tall so he is very similar to Toby. His weight gain has been slow & steady. I personally am happy he is on the smaller side but he still does make the charts. I tell him he's my Little Sheltie.

Bailey was 10.5 inches tall at 15 weeks old. I don't have her weight, but at 14 weeks she was only 6.6 pounds. She was a very active puppy and was very lean.
She's now 13.5 inches and 14 pounds. If Toby stays on the same track as Bailey, he'll be in-size, but on the small side.

What to do with a puppy that grows too much? 
Mozart is 11 weeks old, 11 lbs and 12". Is there anything I can do to slow down his growth? He is fed 2x a day 1/2 cup for breakfast and 1/2 cup for dinner. Breakfast - Orijen for puppy. Dinner - cooked chicken & rice with variety of vegetable.

Ha ha ha ha, I don't think so, but I would love to be in your shoes so I wouldn't worry about Toby being tiny! I am curious though why Mozart gets chicken and rice for dinner and not his puppy food?
Bailey and Megan sound almost identical in height and weight, well....Megan weighs more but who asked
.Toby is a very active puppy, especially chasing after Megan and running all over the place too. So I don't think he'll ever be on the meatier side, just lean and thin.
I suppose just like kids, puppies have different types of growth spurts. Shoot, my two legged son didn't really grow and start eating until he was 16...seriously.
I guess the most important thing is our pets are fed a healthy balanced diet, get plenty of exercise and are loved

For a few reasons actually....1 - because I don't want him just eating 1 type of food; 2 - he is the only puppy I have right now and the place I got the Orijen from only sells them in large bags, I don't want to be storing too many dog food around the house; 3 - many have commented that Orijen is high in protein so I thought I'd use other food to balance it out.
If I do keep him only on his dog food will that keep his size in control? If both his parents are standard size and he is not overfed will his growth eventually slow down?

Variety is good...plus like others here have said it helps "toughen" his stomach a little, I think!
