Gypsy's blood tests are back

Wow Dawn, so sorry to hear this. That's just so young :( Did you check to see if kidney failure is something from her lineage? It might provide some answers.

I dealt with this in my 10 year old, she didn't appear to be in any pain but she hated the idea that she just couldn't control herself.

It's amazing sometimes what some home recipes/remedies do for sick dogs. We'll be thinking of Gypsy.

I'm thinking about you and Gypsy, Dawn. I sent you a PM with some links to sites that I hope might help. My first Sheltie, Scruffy, had kidney problems when she was young and lived to age 13. There is hope...don't give up!!

I'm so very sorry to hear this. Hopefully with the right diet it can be managed,Gypsy will feel better and be with you for a very long time.

I just read in Lew Olson's book that one cause could be Cushing's so I am back to that again just one more thing that points in that direction. My vet and I are going to talk again tomorrow so I am going to demand that he do the Cushing's test. I am going to also call Stephany at pet farmacy as Ann recommended. I've talked to Stephany before and she is very knowledgeable so I hope she'll have some good suggestions for me.

That sucks. I lost one to Juvenile Kidney Disease (JRD) just shy of her 6th birthday. Are you going to sonogram her to find out what the kidneys look like? That was the solid diagnostic for us, one kidney was shriveled and not usable, the other was small and shriveled. Also try to rule out acute kidney issues, tick-borne diseases, etc.

Stay far away from Science Diet. My dog lived 18 months past diagnosis on Purina R/D, both wet and dry.

I have been doing a lot of research on JRD because I just heard of a Poodle litter that has it, all the puppies. In most breeds it is a simple recessive. It can linger and hide for years. Because Shelties tend to not be symptomatic until they are 3 or 4 years old, it's harder to nail down.

I am with you on forcing the Cushings test.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I do not have any advice because I do not have the experience the others on this forum have. Just sending positive thoughts and energy your way.

Oh I am so sorry to hear about the kidney problems! I'll be praying for your furkids; stand your ground with the vets do to MEANINGFUL tests and treatments.

I'm doing some research to see what tests would be most beneficial there is an Xray with dye injected also the sonogram and a few others. I had him order the purina,I don't like Science Diet either and am reading up on my Lew Olsen book you recommended. Alot to absorb in a short time. I did not expect this at all. I emailed you the other day not sure if you received it. I didn't get your post that you were home Saturday if we wanted to come by until to late Thanks for the offer though I really appreciated it.

aww, that is tough news. I would suspect at this age it is def hereditary/ genetic issue.
As with humans careful management of diet, fluids and electrolytes is a must.
So sorry she has to go through this soo young.... glad she has you in her corner....
