Housebreaking

you know when you have no more accidents in the house- they housebroken.
Point is they have to learn to hold it while they inside, providing it is reasonable amount of time and they have no bladder/urinary infection.
While Che sleeps through the night for 6-8 hrs with no problems during the day I do take him out just about every 3-4 hrs. He has been accident free since he was 9 weeks old. Just as humans normally sleep through the night and eliminate during the day, dogs should not be asked to hold it for 8 hrs during the day when they play and eat and drink. If a person works 8 hrs they should be able to find midday solution in a way of dogwalker, friendly senior neighbor etc. It is not normal for kidney to function as they do during the day and not be able to eliminate.

My shelties are 6 months old :uhoh: But their breeder didnt work with them at all I should have gotten a puppy if I knew they would still be having problems at this age
Yes during the day I take them to work and they go out for a walk at lunch
That is my question how do I teach them to hold it for 3-4 hours in the house
They hold it about 7-8 hors at night so im happy about that

So how do they know not to go in the house if I always take them out?
I mean they know the word potty and know it stands for number 1 or number 2
But HOW do they know to tell me to go out if when they are in the house they are confined to a room and cant get to the door that has the bells?
or how do I teach them to let me know???? A friend of mine told me her shelties never learned so she just takes them out every 3-4 hours or less.

I've never heard of a sheltie that never learned to go potty outside! You just have to be vigilent. Take them out everytime they wake from a nap, everytime they eat or drink, every time they start going in circles or sniffing around. If, at this stage, that is longer than 1.5 hours in between, take them out then too. Then, go crazy happy when they eliminate outside. "Good potty!!" Then treat.

I got Meggie at 15 weeks and her breeder had already started potty training her. She would give me a single little bark that told me she needed to go out. She was really easy to train. I think it will click with your two before you know it!

OH they go potty outside and they come inside and we put them on the bed toplay with them and no sniffing no circles they just look like they are sitting and when they move they have peed. Today they had just peed and pooped in the yard on command even and we bring then in and sure enough they go on the bed ......we rushed them outside nothing so we put them back in the kennel. We have the hartz urine spray eliminator and maybe its not working plus we have been washing the comforter with oxy clean Do we still have to spray the eliminator on the comforter??? or is washing it in hot water and oxy clean good enough????? Why are they going on the bed after being outside and going number 1and 2and in just 15-30 mins when they wouldnt even go this much outside:confused2:

Update on The girls they are going up and down the stairs easily and there hasnt been a mistake on the bed or in the kennel.
When they are lose we take them out wiithin 30 mins or if they even look at bells. ....Feeling Positive:smile2:
 
very sad:( the girls are now 7 months old and they are still not housebroken ...Actually I shouldnt say they since Bella had the last recent mistake...I had just let them out and she was out fro 10 mins when she just squated .....I am seriously confused and feel like a failure

Don't feel like a failure. House training is hard work...and it sounds like your pups got started on the wrong foot before you had them. You are now trying to unbreak a bad habit that they were allowed to get away with before. We brought our first sheltie home at 7 months, and he pooped in the house several times before we got it figured out. So don't feel bad.

In regards to Bella's last accident...are you saying that you got home, let her out of the crate and she peed on the floor 10 minutes later? I would recommend opening the crate, picking them up, and immediately taking them out. Treat them like puppies. Feet don't hit the floor, and "hellos" aren't said until they go out and do their business.

I will back what Corbinam said. Vash is 11 months now and every time I leave him alone for any extended period of time I make sure the first thing I do is take him out to potty before letting him roam free in the house.

I believe I haven't had many accidents in the house since the inital potty training because of it.

There was one time a few weeks ago where I had slept in too late and Vash had too much water the night before. As I was standing at the door readying his leash he peed right on the kitchen floor with out so much as giving me a notice whine.

But that is the first accident he's had in 8 months that was unrelated to being sick. And honestly it was my fault for allowing him to lap up a tank full of water before going to bed then waking up late.
 
We got home tooked them out they both pooped and peed
i was going to play with them for a half hour or hour when she peed 10 mins later
How did u house break ur dog at 7 months old? At this point we have tried everything
treating them like puppies going out 5 mins of play kennel then out increasing the time out as they mature
We have trued diapers which they will be out with us for about three hours and taking them out since they dont ask to go out and when we went to take off the diaper Bella had peed in it. She has peed in the diaper twice so we dont see how this is going to work but the breeder said it was a sure thing
so we tried it .... we have tried just taking them out just for them to potty and then inside the house and then kennel so they know outside is to go....we even put straight in the kennel if they dont do anything outside
We have written down their schedules ...asked the vet... dogs trainers everybody and everything

We take them out everytime we take him out of the kennel even if it has been 10 mins. we have treated them like puppies they only thing that has gone right is that they hold it 7-8 hours at night....

Sorry I am not proofreading my messages I my spelling is like a childs really TOOKED embarrassing:eek2:
I guess Im more upset than I realized:(
