Housebreaking

That sounds like it might be health related (UTI or something similar). Have you had them checked by a vet just to be sure?

I would not use a diaper if I were you. First of all, it forces them to sit in it (which is a really really hard habit to break). Secondly, I'm not sure how it would teach them anything. They don't know they are peeing in the diaper...just peeing in the house (wherever they squat).

When they pee/poop in the house, do you catch them doing it? If you catch them, you need to stop them mid-act (yell, clap your hands, anything) pick them up immediately (even if they are still peeing/pooping while you hold them!) and RUN outside. If they finish outside, throw a party.

If they are peeing/pooping and you're not seeing them, then it's your fault (no offense)...I just mean that they don't know any better, and they are still learning. With potty training, you have to watch them literally constantly. If you aren't watching like a hawk, they need to be crated. Do not give them the opportunity to go without you noticing.
 
Yes ...Yes .....I caught her mid pee trust me I got wet took her immediately out she did nothing so put her in the kennel for 20 mins took her out again....she peed
I dont let them loose in the house ...yes I watch them like a hawk she squated right in front of me....i have three child grates ,,,I attach them to my waist I carry them to answer the phone, even when I have to go I take them with me :eek2:
Yeah the vet didnt think the diaper was a good idea either
Yes they just had a check up they dont have a uti

It sounds like you are doing all the right things :smile2:...I think you just need to keep it up. Old habits are hard to break.

How long have you had them?
 
I've had Bella and Izzie 2 months. They were 5 months old when we picked them up and at first we were just trying to get them used to us. I dont think the breeder did any work on them and we have treated them like puppies since their first accident which was the first day we got them home

Ashely has had great advice! Also are you cleaning the area with a substance like natures Miracle? So that the smell is completely gone and they arent still smelling the pee so they think its ok to continue to pee..
 
Yeah we have two cleaners the second one came recommanded by our Vet
I dont know if I have mentioned that they are from the same litter and are inseparable which is why we got them both.
We have been told by everybody (trainers,vets ) except the breeder that housebreakin sibling from the same litter is the worst also that Shelties are the hardest to house break which I find surprising because I had a sheltie and she was house broken in one week. Was I just lucky?
 
Im not sure who told you that information, but that is not true at all! Shelties are the easiest to housebreak because they are always willing to please their owners and dont want them upset, and they are very smart and catch on rather quickly. As far as housebreaking siblings I have 2 brothers and they were just as easy as the rest of mine to housebreak. Its all about consistency with them and knowing their cues.
 
Sca was easy. His tail goes up like a tipup whenever he piddles (or poops for that matter). So when he was a pup if he paused and the tail started to go up I had a tiny window of opportunity :lol:

Now he is mr shy and doesn't want me to watch or to go in a place other than his.
 
I have to agree with Lightplum,our two were a breeze.Trapp being the best ever.He had full house priviledge by the time Jasper cam home,he was completely housetrained.

I have never seen two puppies as easy.Even Mia is doing so awesome.Don't matter if she is blind and deaf..she lets us know,she has to go.

Jasper was a bit more of a challenge,he prefered the kitchen floor,even after being outside for hours on end playing,he would come in and drop me a present.

So I just went back to puppy 101,crating etc.After about a week of being crated,he got the hint real fast.

Back about 2 months ago or so,we had a couple of episodes with Trapp.But it was food related.As soon as I stopped the food,he stopped going potty in house.It was causing gas.
When ya gotta go,ya gotta go.I felt bad for him.
 
When I got Noah and brought him into the house, he went right to the patio door to go out. We have a few accidents with him, but he was easy to train.

Emma was the same. A few accidents the first week and then that was it.

Liam had a few accidents the first week as well, trying to get used to a new home and schedule.

Now they just let me know when they want out, even if it means lying on me in the middle of the night. They go from around 8 at night until 5 or 6 in the morning.

I would agree - Shelties are easy to housetrain.
