Howling sheltie!

That has got to be so funny, Msfitzga.:lol: I would love to be a fly on the wall to see it. When Jewel was with us she was more of a grunterand quiet growler. But as soon as she would spot the person, Leap right in daddys' lap or anyone close enough to protect her from the mean thing.:eek2::lol:
 
Our two boys a sable and a tri howl.

the tri will howl at siren sounds like ems vehicles (firetrucks, ambulances going by) a low gurgally howl.

the induced howl that both can do is when we ask them "real singing" they both put their heads up, close their eyes and howl moving their head from left to right.

also we have heard them howl or as we put it cry the blues when we leave the house. too depressing.
 
Treader has howled only two times in all the 9 months that I have had him. The first time was on his first day in my home, when he heard a police car siren coming from the TV. The other time, he howled in his sleep and woke himself up!:lol:

I know this is a VERY old thread, but thought it might be fun to try and get it going again.

Here is one of my FAVORITE videos, the one I managed to get of Ginny howeling. She does this when we leave the house, return or when she's crated and knows we're there somewhere.

Melissa, that is so cute!! My pups looked at my laptop like, "OMG! Saaavvvvee her!" Well, the Shelties did. Pierre was annoyed that something was taking away attention from him.
 
Hamish would howl if he was left on his own but just for a short while. My sister's black lab used to howl at the carillion when it played at the church just down the street from us as the bridal party left the church. Not sure if she felt sorry for the bride, the groom, or just wanted to join in.
 
None of mine howl. However, Justice's half sister does as does her 2 litter brothers(whole litter). None of my breeders other dogs that I know do either. I've wondered about a genetic component or if its learned because of that.
 
Lexi howls when we come home and let her out of her crate. She often does it while stretching--like she doesn't realize it! It's very cute.

Oh man that brought back some memories. I remember the first time Koji howled. It may have been his first week home with us, we put him in the crate to get him to sleep and next thing I said was, "what in the world is that noise?" and I'm like, "ohmigod, is he howling? how cute!!!"

And yes, he'll do it whenever he's alone and we're not around. Typically, when he can hear us outside, but he's inside, etc. Sounds just like Ginny. I never got it on video though. I'll have to figure out how to do that. ;)

I can't recall if my breeder said it's normal with hers or not, but she said he's never howled at her place and Miko doesn't, so this isn't learned in my case.

I agree, I still think it's cute even though I want him to be quiet so we don't get thrown out of our home, lol.
