TOTW, rotate between Pacific Stream and High Prairie. Phebe also gets a spoonful of canned Blue Buffalo or TOTW with her evening meal. She gets 2 meals a day, morning and evening. TOTW is considered an all-age food and she has been on it since she was 4 months old.

Not all pups tolerate the all-age food as well as some, but Phebe's breeder used an all-age food from the start. She's an easy keeper. If she gets a bit of soft stool then she gets pumpkin, which she LOVES.

A lot of people on this forum feed TOTW, but I don't think they make puppy food.

I've been planning to switch to TOTW once I near the end of my current bag of food.

TOTW is rated as an "all stages" food so you can feed it to puppies, the pups just get a smaller amount. From their web site:

Hi,

We used Wellness when Ginger was a puppy and now their chicken flavor. We did NOT have a problem with loose stools when she started.

She gets wet food at dinner time. I vary the brand of that quite a bit. I also add in the basic protein we have for dinner, chicken, salmon, etc.

Ginger's not a "chow hound" at all- she self feeds during the day, then gets dinner after we eat.

Okay calling all Sheltie people here, , what brand of food do you all feed your furbabies?

Right now I feed Castor and Pollux with a little canned Purina Pro Plan mixed in..Too many options out there to decide on my own..

We feed Earnhardt once a day,Trapp twice.

Trapp still occasionally gets a bit ansty,and wants a nibble at lunch,so I may take just a bit out of the measured amount for supper,and put it in his bowl.

We also feed TOTW.Just finished a bag of Pacific Stream,and transitioned nicely into Wetlands formula. Both of these babes do circles,love ,love it!! And a tablespoon or less of Merricks,just to get the vibrant pets mixed in.

I started with the Pacific Stream formula,as it was almost dead on for protein from what I wanted to get them off of.I did not have one issue with either dog.

As far as Bumper,she also eats TOTW feline formula.And is doing very well on it~

I read A LOT about Wellness and am actually weaning my "old lady" cats onto it. Still waiting to figure out Megan's dry heaves on the AM before any switching

Getting quite a few on TOTW, pretty interesting? I have read and been told it's important to feed food that is specific to puppy's nutritional needs. I also read here that TOTW is ALL life stages and basically feed less to a puppy and more to an adult. Too much protein and Megan tends to snub her nose at it, how she knows I dont know, ha ha!

I just looked at the feeding chart on the TOTW bag and you feed a pup MORE than an adult dog up until 12 months. This is because pups need more calories while they're growing. Phebe's weight increased by about 40% between weeks 12 and 16. I think the 12 months is a generalization. Large breeds have a longer growth cycle and small breeds a shorter one. Twelve months is kind of average.

I fed Innova adult dry for years to my Dobies and was really happy with it, but after Big Dee had a bloat attack I had to switch immediately to canned. Vet suggested Merrick's. She loves it and no digestive probs whatsoever.

When I got Gussy, my sheltie pup, this past May, I put him on Merrick's Puppy Plate dry. I am now transitioning him to one of the many Merrick's adult dry foods. They have an amazing variety (Turducken, Grammy's Pot Pie, etc.).

You really can't go wrong with any of the the foods mentioned here by members. Price and availability may be concerns, though.

I believe you are completely right about the foods mentioned here by members, they all sound great. I suppose it depends on all kinds of factors as to what you settle on. We'll see what's available in my neck of the woods!!
