Introducing a very Shy Puppy into A New Home?

Callie took a few days to eat food here when I adopted her. I was worried for a while and was going to get some of the food she'd been eating in the foster home and before I could, she started to eat her kibble :smile2:

That makes me feel a lot better. :) He took a few pieces of kibble with his canned food tonight, but even after a good 20 minute walk, he has not pooped yet. I'm going to go take him on another walk soon.

Good update today! He did poop this morning, and thankfully no diarrhea. It was a pretty small amount, I will still probably go get some canned pumpkin if I can find it.

Last night, instead of running into his crate and laying down there, he spent quite a bit of time laying on the bed with me. We ended up taking a 2 hour nap together - him conked out, laying flat out beside me in a dead sleep. Amazing that the night before, he would much rather look to his crate for safety instead of me. I did end up putting him in his crate when I finally went to sleep for the night, mainly because he had not pooped all evening and I didn't want to tempt him with a large area of carpet.

This morning, I let him go out to potty, then went back to my room and he was in a very playful mood! He grabbed the giraffe squeaky toy and pounced on it, and actually squeaked it several times. He let me throw it, and played with it some more. He then tried to engage his reflection from my big double mirrors to play, and got upset when it wouldn't. He would play bow, bark quietly, and kept trying to get the other dog to play. Poor guy.

I know we still have such a long way to go, but I'm definitely celebrating how far we've come in these short two days! Again, he's sleeping at my feet, with his head resting on my toes. I'm loving it.

You're doing very well! It sounds like Monet has a very affectionate nature. Marlowe likes to be in the same room as me and will follow me about but he rarely comes to lie right at my feet.

Thanks! :) We make some steps forward, and make some steps back.

It seems any time I put him in his cage for any length of time (I babysat for a woman for an hour and a half yesterday), he regresses and is scared when I first let him back out. He'll get over it, but it just is a short slide backwards.

He likes his walks. I can get him to wag his tail and bound around, he wants to run and zoom around, this is different than the times he would try to run just because he was scared. It's nice to see the change starting. :)

He's absolutely terrified of my dad. I guess I figured it would happen, since dad isn't around as much as me or mom. He's less terrified of mom, but still scared.

He's also started playing more as he gets more confident in my room. Last night he bounced around my room, playing with his little squeaky giraffe toy, tossing it in the air and pouncing on it. He also grabbed the rope toy I bought for him and brought it and his chewy on the bed. In addition to the play, he also is exploring more.

Last night, I found out my little pup is a bandit in disguise. I had $10 in 1 dollar bills on the coffee table, and he gently reaches up and steals it off the coffee table. He's got a thing for money, because he did it again when I went to the bathroom, and he apparently had a plan to tear it up. He's a little thief! ;) We now know to keep money out of his path.

I'm going back through threads and I realize there are quite a few threads about shy dogs on here. So I'm sorry I made another one! ;)

He went to the vets yesterday, and he was so good. Today, I took him to my grandmother's apartment, and he again was good, but I held him. Then, we went for a 30 minute walk at the local high school track, and I was so proud of him. He sometimes gets confused on the leash, but he is getting better.

We even played together some this morning, I would squeak his toy, and he'd get mildly excited and grab onto the toy. He even let me give him a bath and clip the mats off the back of his ear. When I brought him home, he wanted me to have nothing to do with the back of his ears, and with scissors? Forget about it.

I am so excited to see the changes in him. It's amazing it's only been 4 days. Puppy class starts in 3 days!

That's fine!

You got a lot of great advise here, and it is always fun to go and read about other dogs that have similar situations as your own.
