Maia is not feeling well...

I am not sure what could be up with Maia. She is vomitting yellow mucus, as she has not been fed since yesterday. Yesterday, I noticed that her stool was soft and covered with yellow mucus as well.

Yeowch. :dead: That sounds really bad. I don't have any advice to offer (as most of the time I'm the one needing help!) but I hope she feels better soon.

Doesn't sound like an obstruction, more than likely just a sick puppy. Stick with plain food for now, boiled chicken breast and white rice are gentle and good for slowing down the bowels. Lots of people on the forum have had luck with canned pumpkin, just make sure you get 100% pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling.

If you don't see improvement in a day or two, go see your vet.

I hope Maia is feeling better soon!

I am not sure what could be up with Maia. She is vomitting yellow mucus, as she has not been fed since yesterday. Yesterday, I noticed that her stool was soft and covered with yellow mucus as well. She still has her appetite, but I have not given her anything today. She is still wanting to play, but I have not done too much of that either. Yesterday, when I went to pick her up, she yelped. When I palpated her side and legs, she did not seem in pain at all. She has done this one other time, about 2 weeks ago (the yelping when picked up that is). I am very worried. She has been farting, and they smell horrible! We were at the park on Sunday, and she did get into some left over chicken that someone left on the ground, and I could not get out of her mouth fast enough. Do you think it could be an obstruction of somekind? Would it take this long to see symptoms? I am really worried. I think I will take her to the vet tomorrow for x-rays, or do you think I should take her in to emergency tonight??

Wow, my dog has the exact same symptoms right now--I wonder if something is going aorund? My vet told me to feed him white rice and cottage cheese. It was helping at first ,but now it seems to be going back to the old symptoms. I cooked the rice in broth to make it more palatable, so maybe that's the problem. I called them...we'll see what they say.

I'm sorry to hear that Maia is feeling so ill. Sophie had these symptoms before. She'd be fine for 2 weeks and then kept nothing down, mouth-wise or poop-chute wise. I took her to the vet and she was given Flagyl, which is a great antibiotic that works especially well on the stomach and settles it down. It gets rid of bacteria in the gut. See if that works for Maia when she goes to the vet. Sophie was like Maia, playful, no loss of appetite, just tummy upset.

I think definitely the vet and some bland food in the meantime. I know you feed raw, but maybe the white rice, pumpkin and cottage cheese won't compromise that?

I was told by my vet that Shelties have extremely high pain thresholds (I'm not sure why its more unique to them). For that reason, even though Maia is playing and wrestling does not mean that all is well. Appetite, vomiting and stool consistency are the real factors to watch for.

Good luck! I hope she feels better soon!

Well, she vomitted in the evening yesterday again. I waited and then gave her half a cup of chicken broth, which she slurrped up gladly (and I was happy too, as she was not drinking). She kept it down. I also gave her a tablespoon of colloidal silver yesterday and today. No incidents all night or this morning. So, then I gave her some more broth and two hours later gave her two smaller chicken necks. So far so good. I left her with my sister all afternoon when I went to work and she said she did well. So, hopefully, she is over what ever she had. I have not seen her go to the bathroom yet, so I do not know how her stool looks. I am going to keep my eye out this evening to see how she is doing with that end of things. Hopefully she will do well. If not, then I will call the vet and get an appointment to get blood work done.
Thank you everyone. You do not know how much your support means to me. I just get so worried - she is my babygirl, and eversince my last sheltie got sick, and it ended up being cancer, I get paranoid now. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I'm glad to hear Maia is feeling better. I would keep food bland for a little while just until you are sure her tum is settled. Also a little bit of plain natural yoghurt can help her digestion.
