Marty is limping - causes?

Update:
Both Neuro and Ortho examined Marty today and once again, could not find anything wrong. No pinched nerves, or any reaction to the physical exam whatsoever. They viewed the videos we sent in and said ‘this looks like a completely different dog than was here before”. Marty had shown zero limping then, as today. So, the next step is a bone scan to see if any inflammation shows up that would give direction as to where to specifically look, but even that (in his case) is 50/50 chance of a clear answer. It could very well end up his feet just go to sleep when he’s laying on a hard floor, .

If it were Pano, the doc felt he would not be “walking it off”. We are going to keep him off Meloxicam, monitor closely, go back to regular activity…and if he begins lameness again, or it’s more frequent….continuous…, then she wants us to NOT give medication but bring him in right away so she can examine while it’s going on. In the meantime, we can schedule the bone scan. That probably won’t be able to be done until May. If he stays better…, or it is happening less frequently…we can decide to cancel at that point.

Something I think I neglected to mention is that he sleeps in bed with us every night and we have a 3 inch memory foam mattress topper. Not once has he ever woke up with a limp after sleeping all night long on his sides. So, we have ordered him a memory foam mattress topper of his own….crib size ;-), to lay on in the family room during the day. Maybe the hard floor is the issue?

I would repeat a Lyme panel. Lyme's is tricky. Brodie showed up negative with his first limping round. A month later when the limping returned and was worse, he finally tested positive. 4 days of antibiotics (full course was 30 days) the limping stopped. The test only reacts to Lyme's antibodies in the blood and while an active infection may be brewing, it takes about 4 weeks for those antibodies to appear.

Hope you get some answers.

You might want to check out the orthopedic pet beds that are available. Teddy has 1 and he loves it. If my memory serves me right, his was about 50 dollars and I purchased it off Chewy.com
We have tried those on our other dogs. They didn’t want to use them. I’m thinking since Marty sleeps so well at night that this might be the way to go. I purposely looked for a human grade type of mattress topper. We will see??

Thank you for your thoughts. He’s been dealing with this on and off for awhile now and we did run a complete Lyme panel which includes many other Lyme related diseases. I would think something would have shown up somewhere?

Still no limping! I’m starting to suspect Simparica Trio may have been the cause? We changed to it in November and that’s when he had his first sign of a limp. He had it in November, December, and January, but I did NOT give him his next dose due in March because I wanted to see how he was when it was completely out of his system which was (4-6 weeks) on 3/23. Anyone else ever seen Neuro problems caused from Simparica Trio? I’d mentioned this idea to his personal doctor as well as the Orthopedic Specialist and they both agreed it was “not impossible, but not likely”. Marty is MDR1 clear by parentage, but we also did the test ourselves just to double-check and he was again, clear. Simparica Trio’s side-effects include neurological issues. If he continues NOT to limp again, then I will forever believe it was from the Simparica.
