My boy has the staggers

Hello everyone,

My 3 1/2 year boy is not well, i took him for a run and after about 10 minutes he started to get the staggers, like he was drunk and didnt responsed to him talking to me. It lasted about 1 minute and then everything was fine and kept going again ( but looked buggered) i took him to the vet and they said they couldnt find anything wrong with him. It has happened 2 more times, but the last time was on a warm day, so im thinking maybe it was the heat..

I took him to another vet, and they took blood and the liver, kidney and red and white cells come back fine, but the sugar came back low. it was 2.6 the vet said it should be 3.7-6.3, they want me to take him back tomorrow to take more test of his sugar, and heart.. whats my concern the vet said she is not happy with the sugar being so low and said it could be a tumor, but its unlikly. I am so upset at the moment, can anyone give me any hope on what it could be.
By the way i have also taken him for a massive run and nothing has happened, so its happened 3-4 times in the last 15 runs.

Could he have eaten anything along the way?

I'm ashamed to admit it but Ive seen Bacca stoned when he go into my son's stash (no longer a problem now, btw)
 
As Dawn said, flea and tick meds or even vaccines can trigger this kind of thing if he's had any. It could possibly be a minor seizure...the way you describe it sounds like the petit mal seizures my Pixie used to have. She began having them after she was vaccinated and hers were exacerbated when I used chemical flea and tick repellents on her. She would get very unsteady on her feet for a short period of time. She was fine afterward but very tired for the rest of the day.

Ask your vet when you see him about seizures. My vet(s) -- we saw two -- never could find any sign of anything after the seizures were over. We were lucky enough to be able to treat her for several years with holistic prescription medications that completely cured her. She hasn't had one in two years. She's 6 now. And BTW, hers always occurred after exercise and in the heat.

Just something to consider.
 
i did change charlies flea and tick stuff about 6 months ago, so i will look into that.. but would that make his sugar drop to 2.6?

Im really scared about the tumor thing..


Barb he didnt pick up anything, he is on the lead to we get to the park, then we throw the ball

Charlie is using Advocate 10-25kg, he is 12.5kg in weight

Are they checking him for diabetes? Exercise will cause low blood sugar in diabetics. Has he had a long acting steriod for anything lately? As little as one shot of it can cause diabetes and a lot of vets will use it in skin problem or allergic dogs.

Hi, they are going to check him tomorrow, i have to drop him off in the morning, they are going to do more blood tests and also a test on his heart.
 
I will, he is so active ATM, he doesnt look sick at all. he is eating like a horse and drinking plenty.

I just hope its something small, or better still nothing at all.

Im not looking forward to them shaving his chest tomorrow
