Poor babies -- at emergency vet

Give hugs to Ms Lexi and get rid of that evil caa-at that would hurt her. Oh and hug Enzo. Lots of cookies for everyone including Mr Bentley. Get healed up quick.

Lexi and Enzo went in today for their final kidney panel. Lexi's was clear, but Enzo's showed slightly elevated levels. The vet didn't seem very concerned, but did recommend that he stay overnight tonight for more IV fluids to continue to flush everything out.

Glad Lexi's panel came back normal. Now we just have to get Enzo's levels to right themselves. At least the vet isn't overly concerned.

If you don't mind, please share the vet's reasoning with us? I'm curious about why the additional flushing of his system will resolve the elevated kidney levels.

Ashely, Just read about what happened and how scary it must of been for you and I had tears reading it.... reading and jumping to the next pages to see how they are.... so glad they are home and being spoiled again. So cute of Enzo to go look for Lexi. Hugs and thankful prayers.

The thought is that there is an 85% chance that the kidney issue is acute, meaning that there were just some metabolytes of the drug left in his system after the first "flushing". His numbers were normal before being released late last week, but if there were still some metabolytes they would account for the slight elevation.

The vet said that it is a good sign that the numbers are only slightly above normal, especially since it has been 4 days. Typically if it's a chronic issue (permanent damage/scarring, etc.) you'd see a much higher number at this point. The hope is that there's just a little bit left in the system that can be cleared out with additional fluids.

They are doing another test at noon today, so I hope to hear soon.

Edited to add that I hope that makes sense. I only understand it a little bit, and I'm sort of regurgitating what the vet said. Hope it makes sense!

We got good news this afternoon that his levels are now back to the normal range (hooray!) He gets to come home this evening--though Jonathan and I (read: Jonathan) will have to administer some fluids over the next few days. He'll have hopefully just one more recheck on Saturday.
 
Yeah for good news on his levels!

Tell Enzo his Uncle Keiran said to stop giving his Mom a heart attack by doing dumb stuff like eating a bottle of pills. :wink2:
