Puppies on the way?

Okay...so I went to meet the puppies today.

The breeder ended up having me choose from 2 of the puppies. Pretty much the biggest one and the smallest one. She is keeping 2 of the pups, and the other needs to go to a pet home (not performance). Anyway, here is the one I chose:

FYI, the pics and video are of the last few minutes we were there, so he was tired out from playing hard for almost an hour and a half.

The only thing I didn't like about the pup I chose is that he is riding the upper part of the size chart (which is probably why she's letting me have him). If they had been equal, I would have probably chosen the smaller one, just because of that (supposedly) being better for agility? But the guy I chose just seemed a lot more confident and outgoing. He looked like he moved well, and had a lot of energy. He loved playing with the toy I brought, and with anything in my hand really. Also, my hair :P He seemed quite curious, too.

The smaller one was less interested in me. He did play with me and with the toy I brought, just seemed more reserved overall. He also looked pretty uncomfortable when I picked him up.

So I chose which one seemed to "want" to be mine, and the one I thought would do better temperament-wise. Hopefully I made the right decision :fl

ALL the pups were very playful. None of them were interested in fetching anything, though. I tried that. :rolleyes2:

The same did Minnie - her sister scarcely greet me.

Your little guy is so cute with a lovely head.

Minnie is also a little too big, but it seemed to me only a good thing.

Well, I spoke to my breeder the week before (about another dog she had) and she does tend to keep the small ones. She prefers the ones that are on the small end, and often has to place them later when they don't make size. So I'm hoping he is in the "might" go oversize group.

The only concern I have is that he'll have to have a higher jump height in agility. His structure is good though.

Puppy!!! :) How many weeks before he comes home?

Two weeks, we'll pick him up Labor Day weekend :)

I wouldn't worry too much about his size. I have a tiny little sheltie, and I've had to work very hard with her to get her to build up some muscle to help prevent injuries. She's just naturally extremely light and fine boned, but NOT strong!!!!!

Make sure you put your pup on a conditioning program and he won't have any problems :-)

Sca says little Shelties are a pain, though I did explain not all of them are like Spitfire.

Actually he was visting Shelties he saw at flyball this weekend. Sca likes everyone, even Spitfire.

Wah, I want to see the video but it says I must sign in to view (to YouTube?) I was signed in for SN. The photos of your little man are adorable. It sounds like you picked the little guy who was interested in you. Two Sheltie breeders have told me the larger ones are usually mellower than the small ones (ie Spitfire, LOL). Our biggest girl Asta, 18" was great at agility but we never actually competed outside of one club show. I've always been partial to the oversize ones myself.

Any ideas for a name? I'll bet it's gonna be hard to wait 2 whole weeks!!!

Thanks Cara, that makes me feel a bit better.

I know Sca is the good guy. Funny, the bigger one was kind of trolling the smaller one, and the smaller one had enough and just let him have it. Does little Spitfire ever do that?

I changed the video to public, so maybe try again? Excuse my talking, etc. I hate video, LOL. Anyway, his name will be Kupo, I've had it picked out for months :D

Oh Spitfire picks on Sca ALL the time. Usually Sca loves it but once in a while he will flip him off and escape. Of course Sca LOVES to herd him while Spitfire wants to zoom free. They always get along though.
