This is such a great thread! I love reading all that's going on and thanks to Lightplum for the pictures. They are awesome!

Just watched Megan and Izzy...Megan you are tiny and you looked so nice and neat. Izzy looks fabulous. What fun to watch it on video!!

Thanks for all the pics!!! Was that Megan in the pale pink suit? I couldn't see the face clearly. Ann you and Naoh looked amazing. There is one pic from behind and I had to smile both of you were in perfect step. So cute. Congrats on a job well done.

Showing at the National

For some reason, I'm having terrible trouble with the internet connection here at the hotel tonight, so I can't see Lightplum's pictures. But thanks for posting them, Linda! We'll be there cheering for you and Noah in the morning. Missjennygirl's Tansy follows Noah tomorrow morning with Megan so a big day.

Today was exciting in the ring! Checkers was wonderful, looked great, stacked and gaited like the champ she is and generally made me look good. We didn't place, but neither did some 20 other dogs in our class, so I don't feel bad. The judge seemed to be looking for something different than Checkers and that's fine. I survived my first National and it is a much different experience from showing at a regular dog show!

First, just before your class is ready to go into the ring it is called over the loudspeaker. You and your dog don't just hang out at ringside, as you do at regular shows. You are ushered into a large "ready ring area" that is curtained off and lined with grooming tables where you can tweak your dog's grooming.

Finally, you are lined up in the order of your number. A ring steward comes by with a platter of bait (!!) and you have your choice of liver or fresh chicken. Then, one by one, you enter the ring. There are bleachers and seats on three sides filled with spectators. Checkers and I were second to enter the ring so it was almost like being on stage alone! :eek2:

Checkers was great, and Megan followed us around the huge ring with brush and water spray in hand which I so appreciated! She offered the occasional tip and encouragement too.

We took our turn on the table, performed our down-and-back, and Chex was a star. And I didn't trip! It didn't matter a bit to Checkers that she didn't place...she still got her piece of chicken. And as I said, I got to go home with her, so a winning day for both of us.

Connie (missjennygirl) and Megan were fantastic getting me ring-ready, helping groom Checkers when our class was called sooner than expected and getting us there in time. I don't know what I would have done without them. No one has a better support team and I am so grateful to them. They have willingly shared their knowledge, help, support and most of all, the darling Miss Checkers with me to help me start my show career. I'm afraid now they're stuck with me! :uhoh:

I can't wait to do it all again. :smile2:
