im not sure how close to the eye it is but can you try pure vit E oil. You can buy this in the drug store its usually in capsule form and you can cut it open and rub it into the area, its works to aid healing also. However if its really close to his eye I would avoid putting anything on there as it will burn his eye.
Ask the vet if you can pick up an ointment from their office its actually for the inside of the eye its like a neosporin its made for scratches on their cornea's. Its fairly cheap as well usually around $15 or so. I will try to see if I can find my tube here with the name. Ive had to use it when the cats get the dogs eyes. Its also a human ointment used for our eyes.

Does it not seem horribly odd that Shelly's (birth mother) paperwork got filed almost one month to the day that Smudge's did? Maybe it's just me but something's not clicking there either. Also. The DN refers to the years they were registered with the akc if I remember correctly...I think they keep the same for 2 years if I remember correctly..I could be a bit off on it someone correct me if im wrong...Sometimes breeders wont register a dam or sire until they are sure they are keeping them as they dont want to waste a kennel registered name and the fee that goes along with it. So maybe that was the delay in registering Smudges dam...but than again who knows she doesnt seem too honest.
 
It's called Terramycin,we have a tube in our first aid kit for the babes.It is one item,that I feel every dog owner should have on hand.It is an antibiotic ophthalmic oinment,that is used in the eye directly.but honsetly,it would be worth a try,as it is an antibiotic clear salve.
 
Poor Smudge, and you. Here I am throwing in my two cents worth, I feel so bad for both of you. I would only use vaseline, just because it is close to his eye.
 
Two more cents for me. I agree with Sable...vaseline (or petroleum jelly for babies, which is the same thing) is the safest because you can use it on your eyes so won't hurt him if he rubs it in. You just want to keep it moist until you see the vet and you can put vaseline on as many times as you need to. Neosporin is not recommended by human dermatologists (I know this because mine just told me) because it can cause some allergic reactions.

I sure hope all this ends for you and Smudge soon!
 
I keep telling myself he's getting better. It's obvious he's not. He still steals socks and jumps around like the old Smudge, but his face looks so bad. Here are some pictures so you can see the decline of his face. :cry:

Seven days later one week after surgery. You can't tell it but there is a small patch of fur inbetween two infected areas in this photo (August 27th):

Ten days later (today) and there is no fur inbetween the areas. It's starting to spread onto his nose some. I'm really concerned how close to his mouth it is getting. You can see where his skin is bleeding. I'm also concerned about the corner of his eye closest to his nose. That doesn't look nice AT ALL. I'm worried about that as well, because I'm afraid he's going to go blind before we can get the problem fixed. :cry: I don't think the vet understood me right when I told her it was spreading.

Taking pictures every few days are the only real way I can tell how it's doing because he won't stand still long enough to let me get a good look. I will 100% WIHTOUT A DOUBT be getting some vaseline tonight at work.
 
I agree Jessica I think it looks a lot worse( like you needed to hear that right)? I don't blame you for being worried. It's in such a bad place. Fingers and paws crossed here that the vet has some answers for you this week and things start to get better.

What a good little fellow he is, putting up with you and your camera / phone... holding still.

Jessica- You might want to call the vet Monday morning and see if you can email the photos to them. I'd also check over the rest of his body to see whether you see any other areas beyond his face. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that this is still "localized" (to the face), even though the eye are does appear to be spreading.

I concur with the vaseline for now, too, to cover the area.
 
I agree with Katherine, Jessica. I don't think you can wait for a vet visit. I know it's tough but I'd get him in there, or send them the photos if that's possible, first thing tomorrow. The poor little guy and you have been through so much. Sending prayers to St. Francis for him.
