I've had an 18 wheeler ram into the side of my car after coming home from college. If God has decided today is the day your neck is going to snap it's going to snap reguardless of what you are wearing.
So if a harness is safe enough for the car why is it not safe enough elsewhere?

I could go a million different directions with this.....but I will refrain. I guess the mom instinct in me clicks in, and I feel a sense of responsibility for trying my best for keeping all in my care safe.

where did you read that a harness is not safe for a dog? A harness is one of the safest ways to walk your dog.
A harness seatbelt or crating your dog are the safest ways to secure your dog in the car. If you get in a car accident or jam on your brakes, your dog is going to fly forward. if he is wearing a collar attached to a seat belt, he will either injure his windpipe or will be choked to death.
If you will read above, I said I like harnesses. I'm trying to understand why people don't use them to walk their dogs because they like collars better, but in the car a harness does a better job of restraining them. If a collar is better for outside the car then why is a harness better for inside?
People turn the craziest things into an argument here.
If it's not dog food, it's collars. If it's not collars it's people going off on other people because they don't agree with them.I just think you like to argue with me. You always have.

Most of them are also not adjustable. So if the dog grows you have to throw the entire collar away and get a new one. I don't want one, but if I were to buy one that is adjustable I would have to buy one on the internet. I've never bought dog clothes or a collar online that fits my dogs right. They can also still slip these types of collars. I'm not really sure I understand why it matters that it is loose around the neck. If it is for matting reasons Smudge and Fluffy only wear their collars when we go out somewhere.
Like the vet's office, where I am obviously the only person who follows the "all dogs must be on a leash or contained" rule.
Smudge used to wear his collar all the time, but I have since stopped that. His ruff is looking much nicer since he is naked.
I reiterate that these are NOT choke collars and not intended to use for discipline. When they tighten, when fitted properly, they tighten to fit snug so that it won't slip over their heads. If they choke, they are not properly fitted. With a regular fitted collar, you have to adjust them looser to accomodate their neck and fur, and that's why they can easily slip their collar.
The added advantage is that because they are looser, they don't matt the fur. And while you only put them on when you are taking them out, I have to keep collars on my pups ALL the time. They are front-door escape artists, and I need to have something to grab if necessary, and something to hang their tags on.
For me, its all about safety! Bacca slipped his collar once when he was about 6 months old - my heart did not stop pounding for ages.
You don't have to buy them online. I found some at my local pet store that were also adjustable and only cost $10 each. (though they were flat, not rolled). I opted for the custom because these are so small that you can barely see them.

People use collars to walk their dogs because it's easier. most dogs already wear a collar in the house, so all you have to do is attach a leash and out you go. A harness is not normally worn in the house. It is only used for walking. It's more difficult to put on and unless your dog pulls on the leash, it's not necessary to wear one. Harnesses are good for dogs that pull or will back out of a collar.
Walking a dog and securing a dog in a car are two different things. you can't compare them. When you are driving, you have to worry about a car hitting you at full speed and the impact. if your dog is restraint in the car with a collar around his neck, there is a high chance of him being choked to death by his own collar. A harness is around a dog's chest not his neck. That is just common sense. i'm sorry i can't explain it any further.
