The irresistible draw of Kleenex

What is with the irresistible attraction to Kleenex?

I left the dogs asleep in the den about 30 minutes ago to go into the kitchen, and when I got back - lo and behold - the den had been the scene of a shredded Kleenex blizzard! And the culprit, Bela, was grinning with tiny scraps of tissue all over her, looking extremely proud of herself.

This is something my other Shelties (both mine and a couple of fosters) were fond of doing. My Border Collies NEVER did stuff like this. Do we have any other tissue-shredding rogues out there?

Bela has been with me nearly a year now, and is getting more "Sheltie" all the time. This is just the most recent manifestation.

Oh Buffy loves Kleenex. If I leave it around she definitely shreds it.

There are much worse things she could shred, though. I'd much rather have her shred that than my leather shoes, for example.

Most of the time she is fine when we leave. But once in a while she has an anxiety attack and has to shred something to remind us she was waiting for us.

Bentley absolutely adores any paper product (though I'm happy to say he has not yet discovered toilet paper on the roll!)

I will take kleenex over shoes any day!

Oh yeah... paper products. I could have used CJ when I was in high school. The excuses "the dog ate my homework" would have been so true.

Edan loves kleenex, especially used ones :ick and sanitary pads :ick:ick. CJ just loves anything paper. Thankfully the toilet paper roll is too high off the floor for them to reach.

When I brought Olive home at 8 weeks, about an hour after we got her safely ensconced in our kitchen, she discovered the TP in the half bath at the end of the kitchen. That bathroom hasn't had any TP on the wall hanger since then. And, if I leave a roll too close to the edge of the vanity in there, she'll jump up and down until she can grab it. She knows she's not supposed to have it, so as soon as she gets it, she leads a merry chase as we all try to get it away from her before she shreds it to smithereens. Her other fav thing to shred is paper towels. Seems like I always have one slightly used one on the counter, and now that she's over 6 months, she can get most anything on the counter unless it's pushed way back from the edge. She just pogos until she can get it. I think paper shredding is a dominant gene in shelties! :biggrin2:

Danny Boy goes through the pockets of my coats if I leave them out hoping to find a Kleenex. I usually catch him as he's casually walking through the house with the Kleenex sticking out of his mouth. I have to laugh at him he looks so comical. Trying to get it out of his mouth is a battle. He clamps his jaws shut like an alligator.

This is US EXACTLY!

No toilet paper on our rolls either! Its on the vanity - but yes Julip is getting so tall & that lovely long snout can really reach a lot now!

We were at my Dads on the wknd. with Julip, while we are eating dinner we see this flash & a white trail - yep she discovered their toilet paper!

And a big yes to dinner napkins, my eyes water a lot when I eat (ya its odd & annoying) so I often have a dinner napkin I've forgotten on the table, but not for long Miss Julip who can now reach things on the table (yikes!) has it shredded in no time.

Yes, had to buy trash cans with lids for the bathrooms, as WE know not to put anything in an open trash container. But of course you HAVE to have a garbage can in a bathroom for guests! :wink2:

If I try to wipe something off the floor with a paper towel, she's ALL over it!

Cardboard - check! Paper - check! Newspaper - check! Yep she's a paper product lover!

Iris our cat chews & eats plastic bags. She comes running if you bring something in from a store with a plastic bag - she can totally smell plastic & opens drawers to get to it! Must always HIDE anything with plastic!

Fern our cat eats tape! And also Post It Notes, because of the sticky area?!

Literally nothing paper, plastic or tape can be left unattended here!

Bailey doesn't seem to care about toilet paper or tissues, but she does love paper towels and any kind of printing paper.

She actually screams when you rip a paper towel off the roll because she likes tearing it a part. Crazy girl!

I can no longer leave my TP on the roller. Indy takes it off and brings it into the living room and spreads it all around. I never see him do it.....he is the "Stealth TP Thief". He knows I'm watching and the second I turn my back, he has got it and chewing away. These dogs are smarter than you can imagine.
