The weird things Shelties go ballistic over...

Honestly silly!
lol
I am sorry I forgot where in Ontario you and Sadie live? Near the lakes, I take it? lol

lol, yes, we live near Niagara Falls, that lake would be Lake Ontario

We're also not to far from Lake Erie, although Sadie hasn't been there yet. In a few weeks she'll get the chance to herd waves in Georgian Bay when we go on a trip up north.

Oooh, be careful with the Wiis - someone knocked their sheltie out with a Wii last year. The dog was jumping around and being silly, as shelties do, and the control slipped out of the owners hand and hit the dog. The sheltie actually died and luckily the neighbour was a nurse and able to revive the dog.

Ok, Not sure if you already had a thread like this, BUT I was wondering what are some of the strange behaviours that makes your dog go a weeeeeee bit crazy? So we all know the vacuums, shadow barking, people, strangers anything they haven't seen before...
It will make for a few good stories, I am confident of it!

Soooooooo Toffee cannot STAND it when I sneeze!? I find it so bizarre and funny, and totally weird!

God forbid I sneeze!!... When he hears me sneeze, he jumps BARKING, or I should say he flys barking from whereever he is to land on top of me in order to thump into my chest with his paws... (which kinda jumpstarts my heart, IF it wasn't already beating awfully fast by then, lol).
He barks directly into my face, as if to start giving mouth to mouth, pawing at me, trying to lick until I have recovered enough to FINALLY have caught my breath and told him to back off already and say "I am ok, you freakishly weird dog" lol
:)

Did you guys want to know what the funny thing about sneezing is for me? ... You are completely helpless at that exact moment, even if you see a furrball hurling at you at top speed coming at ya like a bullet. Because as Shelties would he has anticipated the sneeze since it seems to be preceeded with a sharp intake of breath, lol

Any other Sneezy fiends in your Sheltie world? Or any other odd little behaviours?
:)

My sheltie does the same thing when I sneeze. I often wondered why, now I know that other Shelties do it too. When I want him to "COME " (which he does not know very well) I just sneeze (pretend a sneeze) - and there he is. He doesn't like the vacuum cleaner either. He runs and barks at it when I turn it on and then settles down and leaves the room. Oh, and the ringing phone - he runs to the phone and barks at that too.

Weedeater, lawnmower, and water hose. Those make him crazy. He will bark his face off at me whenever I do yardwork!

oh man the list must be huge...sneezing, grabbing or motioning towards the Kleenex box, making the bed(no clue), casting while fishing, hitting a golf ball, showing any kind of affection to someone other than him(even standing close to them), any kind of critter outside on HIS territory, mowing, playing the drums downstairs(just about gives him a heart attack every time:rolleyes2:), leaving him in the car even though someone is still in there with him, garbage bags, touching the garbage cans, throwing a ball straight up in the air, playing the piano(not so much of freaking out rather he sings in a high pitch voice/bark if the song is in a high key, prolly should record it some day)....if I sat here and thought about it i'm sure i could come up with more but to save the people who actually are still reading from wasting any more time i'll stop lol

my female sheltie just freaks out if I have gum in my mouth- she will run from me and if I blow a bubble she goes over the edge. It is really just the oddest thing...

my male sheltie cannot stand the lawnmower - will try to herd it so now he has to stay in hte house when I mow. I would have treid to train this out of him but I live by myself and I think it would take to people. The other is really loud noises like fireworks. I think I traumatized at the NC state fair , they do fireworks everynight that last form 9:45 to 10:00 p.m. I took him one night for me to show my horse and now I can't even tap a spoon on the side of a bowl or he runs...

All my dogs hate for someone to knock on my side door or to ring the bell on my front door, needless to say we do not participate in trick or treat because we'd all have to go on prozac- including me.:wink2:

Yes, Kleenex is a real issue, and so is making the bed. Bacca attacks the pillows when I try to fluff them up.

Indy now gnaws the toilet seat whenever I start up my blow dryer!

And watering the inside plants puts both of them into a total frenzy! They both leap and nip at the watering can, and growl at the plant getting the water.

I really must get a video cam so that I can start recording this insanity! :biggrin2:

Frogs. Ellie HATES frogs. It all started when she was going through her spaying aftermath fiasco and she was to have extremely limited physical activity, which meant having to go potty on a leash. It was about 1 am when I was in the backyard with her. I had the floodlights on so we could see in the yard and she was sniffing around trying to find a good place to go. I was practically sleepwalking and didn't have my glasses on so I am as blind as a bat. I saw something oval shaped on the lawn and I thought it was a big leaf or something. Turns out it was a really big frog. Ellie touched it with her nose and it leaped up into the air and jumped forward. Ellie simultaneously leaped up into the air and jumped backwards. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life! Ever since then, Ellie hunts for them in the backyard and in the planters and the bushes. When she finds one, all #ell breaks loose. She barks and barks and barks and growls. She also hates:
Vaccums
Brooms
Squirrels
Any bird that makes a squaking or loud noise when it flys
Airplanes
Helicopters
Any dog she hears on Sheltie TV
The Dog Whisperer
It's Me or the Dog
Trust me, I could go on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

My angel, Jazz went nutso at my sneezing. But only MY sneezing for some reason. Ellie doesn't even glance at me when I sneeze.

Smoke detector....daisy goes nuts when it goes off, she starts running around whimpering and whining at it. im sure it really bothers her ears.
