The weird things Shelties go ballistic over...

So far, the only thing that phases Phebe is young children. Really just toddlers. If she's walking on a leash and we have to pass a toddler who isn't in a stroller, she steers a wide berth and barks. Just a couple of short barks. Fortunately she's not an hysterical barker, so she hasn't frightened a child with her behavior, and I really don't want that to happen. I need to take her some place where she can watch them from a distance and slowly work towards close contact.

She's also started doing something that Foxy always did, so I'm wondering if I didn't subconsciously train this behavior. If she wants my attention and doesn't get it as quickly as she would like, she sneezes at me. I think I tend to 'huff' a bit when I'm frustrated and this is her way of imitating me. :razz:
 
not too much sets Callie off these days. when she first came, anything that fell or made a loud noise or moved suddenly would scare her. now she's had stuff practically fall on her and she doesn't run away. She's so brave now or maybe it's just that 'high-born' shelties just ignore all that stuff- beneath her notice- like all her toys :wink2:
 
Ok you guys are scaring me.....

.............for 2 reasons:

1) I am beginning to think Cleveland was either abnormal or he was another breed in Shelties clothing because he did not have any of these, shall I say, piccadillos. (And remember Cleveland was unpapered, non AKC because he was a rescue and I always did question his parentage!)

AND

2) All of these, again shall we say piccadillos are starting to show up in McKinley!

He just stares at me right at the moment when I sneeze!

(I don't care though, he is just so darn cute and full of fun and mischief and I just adore him)

Tully isn't that phased with noise, but Deska can hear a lolly being unwrapped from a mile away. I think Tully barks at these things because Deska does it. Although Tully will spin if she hears a squeaky toy.
 
ok I have a sneeze barker too, and I always though it was because when I got her I had a horrible cold and always sneezing! lol...silly me thinking it was concern it must be something bred in her :lol: also the same one flips out when I rip tinfoil, and vaccum and cut the lawn...and im sure there is more...ohh heck she barks at everything!:rolleyes2:
Although they all (except for noah) bark when the cats fight each other as one of my cats is a screamer and really dramatic so they all rush and bark in to see whats going on!
 
This one gets all excited if you rip open a large cardboard box. It's like it scares her and then she will do her high pitched bark. It's up a decimal or two above her average bark. Makes her sound like a little pip squeak dog. She also gets excited when I drop something in the kitchen. Any animals on the TV, especially dogs, and she's over in front of the TV jumping and growling until she's told to knock it off.

Our pup before this one would get excited when you closed the windows. NOT when you opened them, just closed. She also didn't like to be held, though she tolerated me holding her. Everyone else would get the three part treatment. First she would fidget and squirm. If that didn't work she would then proceed to sneeze. Her last tactic was to gag and act like she was going to throw up.

And talking about goof ball behaviour. The prior sheltie would always come up to the kitchen nook area and jump up so you could see her in the windows. The windows are pretty low so when she was young you got a real good profile. And she was like a bouncing rubber ball. Bong, bong, bong. That was her signal that she was ready to come back in.

The current one won't go outside without backup. She needs to visit the Wizard of Oz and get her some courage!:lol:
 
Meggie has ex-ray hearing, if there is such a thing. She is set off by noises I don't even hear. But the funniest thing is when my dad breaks up the noodles in his Top Ramen with a kitchen mallet before he opens the bag. Meggie goes bonkers!

She also doesn't like when you shake open a trash bag to put it in the can, the oscillating fan and brown paper bags on the floor or counter. She's a kook!
 
Yes, I had one of those my dear Toonie who left us 4 years ago would run up to me when I sneezed get right in my face and look soo bewildered, go figure? I t never occured to me that other Shelties did this but it was always a joke around our house she only did it when I sneezed. She was a dear sweet girl and I miss her lots.
 
Holly goes nuts when someone sneezes. She will bite whatever she can reach if you do not have a chew toy in hand when you sneeze

Maizie goes ballastic when she hears ice dropping out of the freezer door. If you fail to drop a few crushed cubes for her....she will howl. She will also howl if she is in a room alone. She will not come to where you are....she will just look around, and if no one is in the room....she howls. It's kind of funny. She starts out with a slight howl...then she stops to see if she is going to get ice or someone is going to go get her...if nothing happens she starts winding up the howls until it sounds like she is being tortured
 
motorcycles (ONLY Harley Davidson), joggers, bicycles, vacuums, brooms, rakes, fans, loud trucks, tractors and other farm equipment, me moving furniture.

Ruckus usually doesnt freak out over bicycles, and joggers much anymore.

I have to put the vacuum in the laundry room behind closed doors. if i dont, he will actually attack it and the vacuum will fall over on him. and then he thinks it has gotten him, and he blows anal glands everywhere :rolleyes2:

oh and the lawn mower!!!
