Thundershirts

I've just ordered a thundershirt for Capers to put on her at bedtime to help with her nighttime anxiety.

I have the Anxiety Wrap for her and started using it nightly approx. two weeks ago and I think that it definitely is helping. However, it is a little more complicated to put on, as the dog's front legs have to be lifted and put through holes cut out for the legs and velcro strips wrap up and around the hips.

The thundershirt design, from what I've seen, is much simpler. Looking forward to it.

I hope so, poor boy. I bought two cd's, one with thunder noises and one with fireworks noises in hopes that I can desensitize them to the noise a little. Really keeping my fingers crossed that they will work!

You may want to consider trying a TTouch wrap. All you need is a tenser bandage tied a certain way. Sadie hates the thundershirt but responds well to a wrap. There used to be a web site with good photos of how to apply the wrap but the article is gone. T

This video shows how its tied. When I put it on Sadie, the tied off ends are at her waist, just in front of her back legs, like its shown when the lady moves it down.

FYI: For male dogs, pay attention to where it crosses so that it doesn't interfere with any male parts. :smile2:

Thanks for posting the link as well. I had actually seen a T Touch Practitioner do this on a demo dog at camp last year. Very interesting also to hear the comment regarding assisting older, arthritic dogs.

Capers' thundershirt arrived over the weekend and I'm happy with the fit and ease of putting it on and it does seem to help with the anxiety; plus, I can spray some DAP on it.
 
I finally broke down & ordered a thunder shirt for Max after the last 2 storms were very severe thunderstorms. Max doesn't have a fear of thunder, but barks & circles like crazy. He kept me up almost all Sunday night. Of course the thunder shirt came Monday afternoon as it stopped raining. :lol: But with it being May & it's Texas, I'm sure I'll have plenty of chances to use it.
 
After reading these posts, I now more than pretty sure that I'm going to order one of these for my Ashlee boy. He gets so frightened about any noises he hears, and we live in an apartment complex, and I'm afraid that if his barking doesn't get any better, that we're going to get complaints... I'm not sure of what size to get him though, since he's pretty small, right now he's about 17.5 pounds, and I got him a seat belt harness a couple weeks ago and at its tightest, he's able to wiggle his way out of it.

One thing you should consider is maybe waiting until he is full grown. I would hate for you to spend the money now and have him grow out of it in a couple months.

Your best bet would probably be going into the pet store and trying it on with him. That way you can make sure you get a snug fit without it being too tight.

I saw them at Pet Supermarket recently. I would also suggest going to try one on.

I think it's worth it to get one now, even if he grows out of it. Think of the peace of mind -- you'll be amazed at the difference.
