Timid rescue sheltie

Welcome. Glad to hear that Apollo is coming around! Poor little guy. Who knows what he endurled before. God bless you for adopting him! Before you know it, he will be your best friend and you his.
 
Welcome - razzle is such a beautiful boy, you wonder how anyone could mistreat him.

My female became increadibly timid after being attacked several times and I had trouble getting her out of the house. I found taking a squeaky toy and a ball on our walks made a great deal of difference. That way walks became fun. At home teach him to enjoy playing with toys and balls and you (I actually had a behaviourist show me how to get a dog interested in toys). An absolute god-send for a timid dog is a ball-obsession!
 
I'm a little late on this thread, but I wanted to say that I am happy to hear that Razzle/Apollo was able to go to the bathroom. Baby steps in the right direction are a great success! Keep up the good work.
 
I just wanted add that it's awesome what you have done! Once Razzle realizes he's safe, taken care of and wont be given away, he'll become the Sheltie he was meant to be! My hat goes off to you and God speed :wink2:
 
I'm a little late on this as well.

I think it's wonderful that you adopted him. I'm so happy he finally went to the bathroom.

Sounds like you're doing everything right and he'll come around before you know it. Please keep us updated on his progress.

I agree with this, when you said he is scared when you STOP, it could very well be exactly that, he was punished when somebody SAW him pee, possibly.
if you have a bit of a yard, maybe you can leave him for a minute or two if not fenced leashed, he may go ahead and you have touchdown, especially if you can watch him from a window, and then HUGE praise when he is done and lots of treats...
Just an idea...

Good to hear Apollo is doing great, thanks for rescuiong him and make sure you give us lots of pictures, and did you get the cat back home yet?

Thank you so-so much for adopting little Apollo. I am glad he went potty for you. He now has a wonderful mother and will now have the wonderful life he so much deserves. Also, I have a feeling Apollo and your kitty cat might become great friends. A lot of times rescue dogs reach out to animals that are already in the household. Please continue to keep us posted. Thanks.

I'm very happy for you that you've finally had success...sometimes the "first time is the hardest" (isn't there a song about that?).

I know my pups don't like an audience. They never pee/poo while on walks. And if I'm outside with them while they are doing their business, they turn their backs on me. Sometimes they look over their shoulder at me with a look like "DO YOU MIND"!" (p.s. And how many times have I sat on the throne, with both pups snouts on MY lap and said, DO YOU MIND?! - but they don't see the parallel)

I learned to turn my back on Bacca when he was a young pup and up in my cottage wilds - with no fence.

And then I progressed very quickly to teaching him "recall", so that I could let him loose to do his business on his own.

Hi again everyone,

Apollo has gone twice today, he went reasonably quickly this morning, this afternoon he was a bit slower, but he also did a lot of playing in the snow, which I was very happy to see. Dakota used to love snow and eating snow, putting his face in snow, etc. This guy was having a good time as well. Also played with the cat a bit, they had some fun together outside. Seemed like he might be gaining a little confidence as he initiated some of the play with Othello (the cat.)

He's making progress slowly but surely. I let him stay out of the crate last night, and he slept beside me in bed. He was very good all night.

I'll try to get some more pictures up soon. I should have saved the ones from the website before it got taken down! He is somewhat of a sad sight though with his short haircut, thought the other pictures it wasn't too noticeable. Can't wait for it to all grow back and see him with a nice full coat!

Is there anything better than waking up to a Sheltie cuddled in bed with you? (Sorry, DH, except you, of course! :lol:)
