I was looking back at my posts from a year ago, and found a post saying Tully finally went up to sniff another dog and sat next to a ridgeback. Doesnt sound like much but I was very excited at the time - it was a big step. People who meet Tully now hardly believe she was that shy, and now its easy for me to forget just how much progress we have made. Thats why its nice to look back on earlier posts to remember. At one point I didnt think we would ever progress.

Keep going. One day soon you will look back on this period with pride on what a great job you have done.

My JRT mix Jazz was a rescue and very shy with men. I took a beginner obedience class with her and the instructor couldn't get near her for 4 weeks. He would just come by and cookies would fall from the sky. She really started liking him because everytime he showed up cookies appeared. I applied the same to all people. Like Tully, my friends who didn't know her when she was young refused to believe she was once shy. She turned into the dog who would see a person 50 ft away and want to go see them because they might have food but it took a while to get to this point. :smile2:

Sounds like Apollo is making progress, keep it up.:smile2:
 
Now we need pictures :smile2: I am betting the look in his eye has improved and he is much more at home. He has expanded and now has his spots in the house. I am betting in a couple more weeks the whole house will be his though he will always have his favorite spots. Hopefully it is not standing on your laptop like Sca :no:
 
Thank you for the update on Apollo. Sounds like progress to me. He is very fortunate to have you, you seem very patient. Your update made me happy. Thank you for sharing.
 
thank you for posting and keep updates! I keep thinking about getting a rescue, when Che is little older... it is wonderful to know what obstacles one faces beforehand... better be prepared
glad to hear that pup is improving...
 
Thank you for the update. It sounds like he is making progress, slow, but steady. You are a great person for taking him in and working with him like you do.
 
You are making good progress, it's just going to take time. My Beamer must have been abused, certain fast movements caused him to drop to the ground and shake in fear. When sitting in my Lazyboy, I'd often pet the dogs with my shoeless foot. The first time I tried it on Beamer, he jumped up and ran away. It took six months for him to trust us and stop being afraid. Our Kasey was extremely skittish, he came from a byb who had around 20 Shelties all living in the same house. He just wasn't properly socialized. A year later and while he is better, he is still skittish and likes to hide upstairs for most of the day. Some are a work in progress that just takes time.

Here's an album with a couple pics and a video from today in the snow. He's hard to get a good pic of. He doesn't like to sit still or look at the camera for more than half a second.


I let him run off the leash today. He did good, and came back when I called him. Just wants to run away again though once I'm close to the door. He wanted to keep running I think, so I have to pick him up to put him inside. Other than that he did pretty good. Having a hard time getting him to go #2 today though. Just too much snow. I shoveled a spot for him, but he didn't care for it I guess. When he's beside the snow where it has been cleared, it's taller than his back. We got a good 14" I'd say.
