Two sorry shelties

Had just this problem with Gracie (the new girl) this past week. She's only been in residence for a little over a week, so I hadn't gotten around to replacing the soft crate (used primarily for travel) with a wire one. Wouldn't you know it, I got home from buying her a new crate, and she had "walked" the soft crate across the master bedroom trying to get to Bela's uneaten breakfast?!?!?!

She also for some reason thinks it's OK to poop in the soft crate. Since getting the new wire crate (which is actually larger), we've had no problem with crate poops. She's now behaving herself (fingers crossed).

I am not working and mostly home with the dogs. I can almost bet with 100%!!! certainty that Maverick would definitely not use the house as a toilet. He would neither eat or chew a thing when I am out. He gets closed up in the 4 season room. Habit and I guess, but mostly, This is MY HOUSE, and you do not get free run when I am out. Ryder is crated. Well although I am certain he would not soil the house he could get into mischief and for his own safety is crated. Plus he is an ABSOLUTE!! pain in the butt to Maverick. I never leave them for more than 4 hours. I am lucky!!! to stay home. Well green card more than luck.
Nope you must !!! stop this pooping on the floor. Definite crate is the way to go.
I wish I lived closer. I would walk them for you. Or bring them to play with my crazy boys.

oh noes.. Bimmer is gonna love seeing them in prison :eek2:

I had great success with having a neighbour who had a son (around 12) who I employed for baby err dog sitting...
He'd come in, had a key, he'd let Toffee out for a run, pee and a pat on the head... all for 5 bucks a day! Best 5 bucks a day I ever paid :) Mind you no starbucks a day during that time!!
Maybe you can find someone like that? Bet you could!

That's not a bad idea...only thing is we live in a not so great neighborhood. DH has already had a run in with a couple neighborhood kids (punks).

Also, once I had my sister come over and let them out on a weekend day where we were gone for a bit longer than usual, and Lexi wouldn't go to the bathroom. She was too worried!

ARGH. No easy answers!

no, course no easy answers, lol Murphy's Law, don't you know?!

I have used bitter apple on baseboard that Toffee was working on when he was young, it worked.
Yeah I remember the punks *smack*... But if you did find a good kid who is looking to make a little extra cash a day, you would get them to come over a few times and make a connection with your dog while you're there. Toffee has a SELECT few he will go with, and not even look back... those are relationships I worked on, I used to give them the leash, and said ok, go for a walk, and off they went. It's easier when Toffee walks away, because god forbid I give the leash to somebody and walk away myself... he howls! aka a front of a store, etc etc.. no consoling him with treats then!

I think they should be fine... for an adult to be crated that long. I work ten hour shifts during the summer and they stay crated. To hot for them to stay outside and I can only imagine what that bunch would find to get into inside. Tire both of them out, before crate time and get both a Kong, or something similar to help keep the mind busy.

Sandstorm here;
Mom crates me for 7 1/2 hours wen she is working. I lissen to the tv and look outside. I am a good dog in my crate. I do not get in trubble!!

I had Gavin on webcam a year ago for a bit. and literally all he did was sleep while I was at work. so crating would just mean he couldn't move from the couch, to his bed, to the sunny spot on the carpet, etc. I wouldn't worry overmuch unless you see behaviors manifest that you don't like when you crate during the day

I crate my young dogs all day when I am at work 9-5. They do just fine. The older dogs graduate to a room with a baby gate. The room bascily has just dog bed, water and my treadmill and old tv. Though everyone is back to the crates right now. I really should post a picture of what they did to my blind. Lets just say it is half the blind it used to be.

I just exercise them in the morning and make sure they get their exercise in the evening. All they do is sleep all day anyway.

Too funny. Its funny how some wont touch a thing(Maverick) and others remodel your home(Ryder).
