What Breed Has Your Sheltie Been Confused With?

Hey Labgirl, I'll bet Cadbury always gets mistaken as a chocolate lab, when in reality he is a sheltie in Lab clothing!:lol:

We get the typical, "Aww look at the mini collie or little lassie dog!" I thank people when they know he is a sheltie!

I have only gotten pissy once with someone over saying he was a mixed breed with collie in him and that was with a vet tech. Made Ron and I so mad and it even vexed missjenneygirl when I told her about it. She was ready to give the vet tech a piece of her mind over claiming one of her pups was not pure bred. Can't say I blame her.

Oh yes, all the time. You think people would know better:wink2::lol::lol:

norrbottensspets (a hunting spitz from the northern parts of Sweden, where I come from

Are you serious? I know a girl with one and they look nothing like a Sheltie. Not to mention the lack of long fur. Wow! Maybe I should stand them next to one another and see if they look alike.

I admit, I try to ask ppl what their dogs are if I don't know. However, I did ask this woman....."is that a small Collie" and she said, "it's a Sheltie". In my defense...1. the nose on the Sheltie looks like a Collies and 2. her Sheltie is 20" tall.

I get the typical, mini collie, prolly cuz my boys are Sable. Or they think they're Collie puppies. I thank the people who know they are Shelties and get angry with those that KNOW they're MINI collies, even though I tell them there's no such thing. It doesn't help that everyone is trying to "miniaturize" everything.

I feel bad for those of you with bi's, tri's, and merle's. Poor things are probably rarely Shelties.

Well, yes I was a bit suprised when they asked that... When she was a pup MANY thought that she was a norrbottensspets, but that I can understand. She didn't had any fur and she has a lot of white.

I just got back from holidaying along the south coast of NSW and let me tell you EVERY town we stopped at I got "look at the little Lassies". Of course the dogs didnt mind because it meant more attention for them. I was actually suprised a couple of times when a couple of people called them shelties.

I wondered if you had been away Caro. Did you have a nice time?

You know I think to myself that I might just have to get a blue merle rough collie to match in with sheltie pup and cause endless confusion. Oh and then a blue merle smooth collie and a blue merle border collie, and then no one will have a clue!!! Bwahahaha!

You can tell its getting close to Halloween can't you, I'm getting eviller!

That sounds like an excellent idea! :biggrin2: At the Texarkana show there was one collie - a tri rough one. It was sooooo pretty. It was doing obedience, and I loved it so much! I really do think that collies and shelties tie for first place with me. After my cousin got a collie I was never the same.

But then wouldn't people think that Cadbury was a tazmanian devil? Sometimes I think Smudge is as much as he spins!

Zoey gets mistaken for a collie pup all the time, because she's a fairly large sheltie.

She got also confused with a border collie... which doesn't really make sense because she's a sable sheltie, but whatever :)

OK, this is going to sound stupid Jessica, but up until a few weeks back I didn't know you could get rough collies in blue merle and tri colours:o It was only when I saw a pair in those colours and had to do a double-take (while driving the car I might add, which is mildly dangerous) that I realised. Though I did for a second go -"my those are big shelties". I had to go home and Google it just to be sure! Now I know though, I just see the fun to be had!

I think Cadbury's too slow to be considered a tazmanian devil, next to a sheltie he is going to seem really really ploddy!!!

I didn't know they came in any color other than sable until a little while back. After the heartbreak with Fluffy's coat I don't think I will be getting another tri or black colored dog. I think they are so pretty though! I want my next dog to be a sable collie/sheltie girl.

Smudge spins so fast, and it is hilarious because he is so big. Fluffy never spins. If Smudge is spinning in front of her she tries to bite his tail. :rolleyes2:
