What Breed Has Your Sheltie Been Confused With?

Sca gets Border Collie about 75%+ of the time including some from people that HAVE Shelties :eek2: But to be fair he is rather large and his low amount of brown gives him the classic Bi-black BC color so it is somewhat understandable

Well the first one was a blue merle and tiny, so they were never really sure what she was. No one told me you had to glue her ears so she had the little radar ears. Plus for a female she was very fluffy. The color would really mystify them. They always thought maybe she was a Pomeranian mixed with an Australian Shepherd. If you told them she was a sheltie you would usually just get a blank stare.

The second was a sable merle. She had the sable color with just a sheen of silver. I think the silver just made them think she was getting old and going gray. So everyone would just call her a miniature collie.

The third one is smaller than the second but not as small as the first. She's a white factored sable who is really on the golden side. She really has the Lassie coloring. So the first question is always how old is she. They assume she is a collie that hasn't grown up. Then I tell them she's two years old. Response: Oh...a miniature Lassie.

Should I tell them if there had been a sheltie in charge, Timmy would have never gotten close to the well.:biggrin2:

Most people just say collie or mini-lassie for ours. 90% of people (who don't know shelties) will ask if they are puppies, and if they will get any bigger. They usually don't believe me when I say they are full grown.

I'm looking forward to when I get to walk brother's bc and sheltie pup together because I can just imagine being asked if sheltie pup is a bc puppy! Such fun to be had! Personally, depending on the mood I am in it is quite entertaining to bemuse people further!

When Cadbury was a pup people thought he was a Staffy, to be fair he did have this enormous chest for a lab pup.

And then of course there was the stupid woman who when Cadbury leant over the fence and wagged his tail at her called him "a vicious, killer pit bull!"

I get miniature collie now and then but most people in my area usaually know they are shelties. We don't have a lot of shelties around here so that surprises me. I do get a lot of "he's awfully small is he a puppy?" (Fergus) and "Wow he's a big one." (Baxter)

Collie, a Lassie, border collie, miniaturecollie, mixed breed, papillon, spitz and norrbottensspets (a hunting spitz from the northern parts of Sweden, where I come from http://www.tradskallare.se/vara-hundar/riks_norrbottenspets.html). A lot of people do ask what kind of breed she is and don't guess before. And of course, there is a few that say with confident "Well, that is a xxx (put in any wrong breed of your choice)" :rolleyes2:
