She got also confused with a border collie... which doesn't really make sense because she's a sable sheltie, but whatever
I get this quite a lot too and just don't get it. My girls are sables!
Yeah, it REALLY bothers me too. I have to remind myself that most of the general public just aren't informed.
I had one girl INSIST that a Lassie was a breed and not the name of a movie star dog.
When I corrected one lady who called Sadie something along the lines of a mini Lassie say to me that she didn't care what I thought they were called, SHE calls them mini Lassies and would continue doing so.
I had one boy confidently label Sadie as some terrier breed, but it was so wrong that I can't even remember what it was.
I've now come to realize that most people have never heard of shelties or shetland sheepdogs, so I've come to identify them as mini collies when people give me a blank look after telling them the correct breed name.

90% of the time when I take the pups to the pet store or somewhere else, I am wearing a sheltie t-shirt. makes it a little easier when they can read the breed name right off my shirt

I feel the same way! When someone gets it right, I usually find myself congratulating them...and then they think I'm weird

We do the same thing Ashley! Since Trapp & Jasper have been seen so much in town etc,they now are recognized as shelties by most folks.
Plus folks actually do read the newspaper,they remember the article on sheltie gathering!
most times when people do know what shelties are,we have found it is because they have had one,or someone in thier family has one.

I do actually have a young Border Collie I've been trialing with a couple of friends who have BCs over the last couple of years, and have been determined to get one. It's just been a matter of finding exactly what I want... which I did a little over a month ago :x
I ended up getting her when a co-ownership on my bi-blue sheltie fell apart (I try to keep below a certain number of dogs). I will never do the whole co-ownership thing again. I'm tired of being ordered around to do this, that, and the other, and demanded I bring the dog here and there last minute.

When we first got Lucy someone asked me how I trained a coyote to be so domesticated. She was huge but thin and I could kind of see that....
With Fiona, no one knows she is a sheltie, except other sheltie owners. They just always say 'how old is your puppy?' Then I tell them the 'puppy' is 6.
