What has your sheltie destroyed/chewed so far?

Lately, Luke has been finding things that I'd least expect he find to somewhat destroy like the pink streamers that were hidden out of sight. :lol:

Then, there was the time, he half chewed up a Christmas gift card after warning Deborah to put it in a safe place but did she listen? Of course not. :wink2: For some reason, the sight of it just made me laugh and laugh.:biggrin2:

So far I think Ive been quite lucky, Jake is 18 weeks now and we have only had one casualty, one of my daughters shoes (and not on my watch :wink2:)

My Inuit however through his SA demolished 3 stairgates (1 was metal :uhoh:), 2 layers of vinyl flooring, 2 doorframes, 3 chairs, my table, destroyed his bed pillow, chews - rips apart and eats any toys remotely chewable (no plastic or soft sqeeky toys here - he can only have super tough things) and upteen toilets rolls, I ended up having to keep them on the toilet window sill.
 
It's been a long time since I had a sheltie pup and he is now at the Rainbow Bridge but I'll never forget the chewing stage. Dakota chewed a table leg on my dining room table, rugs, carpet and the one I found very funny - a book about shelties!!! My rescue, Noel is eight and doesn't chew however the first week I had her she got in my closet and found my sheepskin lined slippers and chewed the sheepskin. I thought that was pretty funny - sheepdog going after the sheepskin! :lol:

I agree that's it's funny that she liked the sheepskin. and the book- if you were reading it instead of paying attention to the pup- then the way to get your attention is to get rid of that other thing, :wink2:
 
I think I also got lucky, though my puppy is still young. Four-month old Sophie doesn't really chew on anything other than her toys. She does like to chew anything I wear, not my boyfriend's clothes though. No matter what they chew, we can't help but love em anyway and I'm afraid that while I do not approve of her using my pants as a chew toy, I must admit that it's cute. Is it obvious that she owns me? :winkgrin:
 
We've run the gamut with chewing.

Lessee ... Foxman has sampled just about everything that wasn't nailed down. The Motrin earned him a ride to the hospital, as did the DuraFlame fireplace logs. You can read about his other chewathons here: http://www.everythingsheltie.org/sheltie.htm

But, where Foxman went for the exotic, Brandy had a taste for linens. She ate my socks, my shirts and my BEDSHEETS. She was a porker! lol I still have one of the shirts and the sheet.
 
My two 5 month old shelties DJ and Mick are teething now and chewing everything in sight. They don't EAT it - they SHRED it. Over the last week, they have chewed the outer layer off the kitchen wall (drywall), foam type insulation from the heat pump outside, and I just noticed tooth marks on the picnic table. They have plenty of chew toys too.
 
Chewing

My two as pups loved to do sheltie artwork with toilet paper. Both of them sleep on my bed and as pups they chew little holes in the covers, as I sleep.

They have stopped thank goodness. There is a 6 and half year difference between the two. My girl who is the youngest did more then my boy did as a pup. She hated bitter apple, but some dogs actually like it. I wear them down with toss. When I am busy I keep them busy with kongs filled with treats.

I even thought of taking a leash and tying her to me, but doggone she was so tiny I hated doing that. When I would watch a german shepard I tied her to the bed with a leash, so I knew she was safe during the night. Of course I didn't have a cage big enough for this monster of a girl.

Their like toddlers, don't take yours eyes off of them. Easier said then done.

That's why I made an instant rule: Shelties are not allowed to sleep on the bed until they can safely jump down! I figure by than, their nibbling dags are past, at least as far as sheets go! :lol:
 
I really needed to read this thread! I feel soooooo much better now. Maddy never chewed much of anything....then along came Shanti, the dog that ate the world! Most of what she has chewed up has been covered in other people's postings....but I'm not sure if anyone mentioned glasses. Shanti ate my husband's reading glasses. Well not the glasses exactly, she ate the ear pieces off of them! That didn't go over real well. Some how she got them off of the end table.

She has eaten shoes, dresser legs, table legs, throw rugs (4 of them I think), underwear (pulled them through the little tiny holes in the clothes hamper!) socks, my hair dryer, our wall to wall carpet, a beautiful African handmade basket (that one made me really steamed!). I've probably blocked out a bunch of things but that's probably the worst of it. The bad thing is that she's over a year now and she still chews things up. Will it ever end???
