What random things does your sheltie bark at?

Hmm let's see, Sca:
Being bossy about food
Flyball
Frisbee
Tennis balls

Spitfire:
Dogs on TV
Putting a new garbage bag in the can
Lightning
Bolts Squeaking on rubber grommets
Drills
Vacuum cleaner
Hair dryers
Sca barking
When he is feeling tough
Random Spitfireness events

Lerwick's "barks at" list is too long, so here's the "doesn't bark at" list instead:

The oven/microwave timer, our alarm clocks, the ice maker in the fridge (but he does come running when he hears it, so he can collect the ice cube "toll" we have to pay every time we use the ice maker).

I ask Olive is she thinks it (barking) is appropriate.

Beau here, " I is barking to let my momma dog know that we is under attack, that's the only time to bark, otherwise momma will ignore it.

momma dog has my back when we are outside, I have my momma's when we are inside

haha this is great to see all the stuff being barked at.

I'll add that if we go even remotely near the dust buster Levi loses it, and immediately tries to bite it as soon as it's removed from the charger.

He growls at the dogs on TV, and the wind, but really doesn't bark at them unless provoked.

Oh I could give you a long list but here are a few:

the vacuum cleaner is a must
the reflecftions of pots, pans, aluminum foil etc. on the ceiling
she must jump and bark when putting a new garbage bag in. This is now her job.
the vac bag sealer machine
and of course any person, dog, sound of that is outside
she also runs like a maniac outside when the train goes by. I think she is trying to herd it. She could care less about it in the house or when we are out on a walk. Only when she is in our yard she does this. At least she gets good exercise.

And these are just a few.

Merlin is my little watch dog and barks at all manner of things, but the funniest is when he barks at Cadbury.

He has two barks for dealing with Cadbury
1) First of all there is the "You are being very silly Cadbury and you must stop it right now!" bark.
and
2) if you shout 'sausages' at Cadbury he'll have a mad moment racing up and down the hall. Merlin knows the bark equivalent of 'sausages' and enjoys setting Cadbury off first thing in the morning!

If Merlin's barking gets too much Cadbury whacks him over the head with a paw!

 I need you Cadbury!!!

Mine all bark at different things:
Revel
- potential threats to the house including The Postman! (Even when we are on holiday he will bark at a postman if he sees one!)
- trying to control other dogs (mainly the shelties) when they are playing. He's never liked the dogs all playing together and when younger used to wade in and stop them (while barking). He still does that sometimes but most often he stands off and yells "Will you stop that!!!" at them.
- Dinner

Yogi
-Other dogs and people appearing suddenly. That's pretty much the only thing he ever barks at but actually it's the worst possible. He never barks during play but if I need to retrace my steps on a walk for any reason or heaven forbid -run - he is a real pain as he squeals and gets under my feet. He would be rubbish at agility.:rolleyes2:
- He does this funny excited whimper when I'm cutting up carrots which is his favourite food!
Yogi never ever barks if someone comes to the house, he leaves that to the others.
Once we did a 'Have a Go' flyball taster and he barked without drawing a breath for about half an hour waiting for his turn. He did love it but needless to say I didn't take him again!

Epic
-He barks a lot!
- Excitement is the main reason.
- Why are you leaving and not taking me? (I have to make it very plain from the outset when he is not coming by following a set and sedate routine)
- Someone coming into the house
He rarely barks at other dogs but he does growl. Actually he is the most vocal of all my dogs as he has a whole repoitoire of sounds depending on the situation. My favourite is his rolling growl!

Merlin
- Visitors and the telephone

When I'm getting their food ready unfortunatly the two tris get beside themselves with excitement which of course is reflected in barking. But every Friday they have a sardine each added to the food and it always makes me laugh that when I open the sardine tin lid there suddenly falls a reverential silence which lasts until the sardines are all dished out!

Sacks Mr reserved unless food is not coming fast enough but at flyball he is a wild man and would try to climb on my held while barking. You should take Yogi back barking perfectly fine in flyball.

Izzie barks at the school bus, train and of course the cell phone when it rings or receives a text. We won't even discuss the amount of barking when the doorbell rings :o

Draco barks when you are preparing a meal for him.

I'm pretty sure the list of things my dog doesn't bark at is shorter than the list of things she barks at.

Indoors:
-Phone ringing
-Doorbell
-Over timer / pre-heat beeping
-Laundry machine beeping
-Tea pot steaming
-Basically anything that you get up and rush to
-Vacuum cleaner
-Closing a door on her
-Raising our voices
-Dogs on TV
-Skateboarders
-Neighbors in the hallway
-Birds flying past our window
-Reflections/shadows on the walls from cellphones, watches, etc.
-Toys rolling under furniture
-Banging sounds like people walking around upstairs

Outdoors:
-Dogs
-Some people (usually when they are in front of my house)
-Squirrels
-Cats
-Skateboarders
-Motorcycles
