    Volume of raw

For me there's definitely been a learning curve. I've spent a lot of time reading and talking to people over the last couple weeks. It's been a little scary, with the whole bone he swallowed that one day, but he's doing better. He can eat a chicken breast now, bone and all. I do think he...

I've got two new kids on my watch

How many fosters do you keep at one time? Is it really hard to give them up when they are adopted, or do you keep a sort of emotional distance, knowing they aren't going to stay? Do foster homes have first dibs if they want to keep a dog they are fostering? I think it's really cool that...

    Toxic breath

    Here's the comparison. It's a cat, but it doesn't matter. http://rawfed.com/dental.html

    Toxic breath

How is that rude? I wasn't criticizing anybody. Here is enough evidence for me, but you can google more. One site compares kibble fed teeth to raw fed, but I can't find it right now: http://rawfed.com/myths/damage.html

    Wolfie pulled a Cali

Yeah, I think Cali started something here! He saw me reading about it, and said, "Hey! I think I'll try that, just to stress out MY mom!" Okay, so this morning, he pooped. It wasn't soft, actually a little hard, and there was a little bit of blood! I dissected the poop (remember, I'm a...

    Wolfie pulled a Cali

Wolfie had his first real experience with his raw bunny this morning. At first he ran off with the plastic Ziploc and licked out the inside. Then he got to working on the bunny meat. He did really well, but just can't seem to handle the bone. He chewed on it for quite awhile, and finally...

How many of us feed raw??

I have the same problem with Wolfie. He's such a weenie. He wants to eat without ever touching it, but I don't want to get him into the habit of having it held for him. I'm going to try and feed him outside tomorrow and see if that helps. The grass or concrete should hold it better.

    Volume of raw

Rabbit was our first try. He likes it, and will eat it if I pick the meat off. He's one of those prissy guys who doesn't like to touch it with his paws. When I got the rabbit out to thaw tonight, he came over and was nosing around in the bags. I really think he wants it, but just doesn't...

    Volume of raw

Okay, that makes sense. The ground I was looking at comes from www.mypetcarnivore.com, and you can get it fine or coarse ground. It includes bone and organs. I'm thinking that if I can't get him to do whole raw, we'll just have to stick with dry and canned. I'm going to rethaw some of that...

is wellness core to high protien?

It's the quality of the protein that matters, not the high percentage. Many articles have recommended high protein diets even for older dogs, and for those trying to lose weight. Here is a great article on the subject entitled "Is Too Much Protein Harmful?"...

How many of us feed raw??

How ever you feel about raw, dogs are not omnivores. Everything about their mouth and digestive tract says carnivore, and that is how they are classified. Do you base your whole opinion of the raw diet on your vet's one experience with one dog? You didn't give any details, but any number of...

Ugh.. Cali inhaled a chicken drumstick in basically 2 pieces.. should I worry?

I worry WAY more about Wolfie than I ever did about my four human kids (now ages 10, 13, 16 and 20). I'm a NICU nurse, so the baby part was a breeze. Once they get older, they are able to voice their opinions and take care of themselves. There's a lot of guesswork involved in owning and...

Should I be feeding "small breed" style kibble or does it matter? Looking for new!

All four of the Orijen mixes are top rated. We went with the regular Adult. It's a huge hit around here!

    Volume of raw

No doubt!! :biggrin2: So 3% is enough for a puppy? I've heard puppies can get up to 10%, but he's not SO pup anymore. If I do mostly ground, that will be easy, and we could go 100% raw. I don't know about whole prey, though. This morning was a chore! Of course I was making it harder than...
