If I'm the only one that does this, then feel free to make fun, but I sing to my dogs. Silly stuff mostly that I make up involving their names. When I got Koko, Shimmy shimmy Koko pup seemed appropriate:smile2: Lately there's been a Milk-bone commercial on with a Goldie running to wait for his mistress to come thru the door. The song caught me, both words and silly tune. "I can see your heart thru your eyes". I started singing it to Koko and every time I do he wags his tail. Shimmy shimmy never got any response:)
Any body else have a dog with a favorite song?

I sing Elizabethan lute songs. I also sing the "Dickens March," which is sung to the tune of "Colonel Bogey's March."

Dickens! He knows a lot of tricks.
Dickens! He likes to chew on sticks.
Dickens! He chases chickens!
And always chases the chickens away.

And of course the classic, "How Much is That Sheltie in the Window?"

And the slightly more-elaborate parody of Billy Joel's "Piano Man":

It's nine o'clock on a Saturday,
The usual crowd ambles in,
There's an old mutt standing next to me,
And the drool's running off of his chin.

He says, "Son, can you get me a little snack?
I'm not really sure how you do it,
But I fancy a treat; how 'bout some of that meat?
And maybe a piece of that suet."

We, DH and myself, play bluegrass and gospel music so Sally has "grown up " with music. DH plays guitar and mandolin and I play the bass fiddle and the ukulele. I play all kinds of music but DH is into bluegrass/gospel/folk music only. DH and I practice (uke not bass so I can sit) while watching tv all the time so it is just part of life here.Sally is always where we are and she seems to tolerate the racket pretty much.

There is ,however, one song that DH sings to "his little girl" and that is "You Are My Sunshine". He has sung this to her since she was tiny and she will actually drift off to sleep as he sings it every night. It is too cute. We are always coming up with names of endearment like you do with your kids...Sally's is "Sally Doodle". From there it goes to "Doodliscious" and "Doodlewoodly" etc. I don't believe I am sharing all this nonsense, but I am sure we are not alone in this practice as the previous posts and post to come, I am sure, will prove. :hide

Thanks, Mellie. I actually did that "Piano Man" piece for my last dog (half-Sheltie) and my son and daughter's dogs. My daughter used to tease me that to the dogs in the family I was the "sugar daddy," because I could never resist a dog's appealing looks, particularly where food was involved. Whenever the dogs were about, and I was in the kitchen, this is how the scene appeared:

I sing little made up diddies to Beau. I steal the rhyme from songs that are already n existance

For instance:

Your in my heart, Your in my soul, we'll be together when we grow old. You are my love, your my best friend your in my soul.. Da doo da doobie. Sorry Rod Stuart fans

Then there is always a song from the Musical hair spray:

Hey Mamma, hey Mamma look at me! I'm the sweetest looking dog boy that you ever did see. hey mamma, hey mamma look at us the two of us together "FABULOUS" say hello to the light in our eyes.

It is perhaps best that you don't hear me singing right now as you might consider my singing animal abuse and call the local authorities:uhoh:

You guys are a riot:lol:
This one laid me out:
There's an old mutt standing next to me,
And the drool's running off of his chin.

Tabitha you don't type like you're old enough to remember Hee Haw but lordy those two songs were staples in our house!

Mellie: Someone did a study of dog nicknames (seriously!) and they found most people's nicknames were actually longer than the dog's real name. Callahan was Snickerdoodle and Mack was Macarooon :smile2: I'm not even going to get into what rhymes with Kokopelli!
