I'm getting a puppyyyyyyyyy!

Welcome and congrats! Are you wanting a girl or boy--or do you care?

Hmm, well I've read that females are more stubborn but that a deeper connection can be made and that males are more baby like. So they both have their good and bad sides. Overall I don't really have a preference, I just want a puppy!

Congrats!

I truly think we are having Sheltie-baby-boomers this year. I don't think I've ever seen so many new puppy announcements.

Welcome to the forum

Two must have books....the illustrated guide to Sheltie grooming and Sheltie Talk.

The grooming book is geared to serious show grooming but it does give some wonderful tips for home too. You can adapt it to your needs.

Best of luck!

Yes, I've seen all the posts about people getting puppies or have just gotten them. It just makes me want one all the more! Only approximately 61 more days to go :fl

I am planning on getting the Sheltie Talk later this week but for the life of me I couldn't find a reasonable priced Guide to Sheltie Grooming anywhere online that would ship to Australia. One place wanted $175 for it!

*Thank you to everyone for the congratulations and the suggestions!*

Congratulations on your newest soon-to-be family member, as earlier stated this will be the longest 8 weeks of your life . . . isn't anticipation wonderful? The pictures are adorable and mama is a little beauty. Have you picked a preference yet? Please keep the pictures coming, it is going to be loads of fun watching all the new baby's grow.

Hi and welcome. I've got family up Woy Woy way - not that I get up there much, I'm too scared of the ticks!

I recommend having a look at Dr Ian Dunbar's website http://www.dogstardaily.com/. Dunbar is one of the foremost veterinary behaviourists and has heaps of fantastic information on the site and almost everything you'll need for raising a puppy. Download the 2 free books - Before you get your puppy and After you get your puppy.

If you want some more in depth info about how dogs think, Dog Sense by Dr John Bradshaw is a great (and easy) read.

I got my copy of Sheltie Guide to Grooming from the publisher http://www.alpinepub.com/sheltie-grooming-an-illusrated-guide-to.html

Double congrat's back to you! There's a few of us with the tail-end of summer pups. It will be fun for them to all grow up together.

Latest picture update!

Pups are now one week old. There seem to be two extremely dark ones and two that are slightly lighter. So exciting, I keep wondering how they'll all turn out when they're older. I also wonder about the sire since the breeder used two dogs and it won't be until pups are 6 weeks old when they are DNA tested. One dog was a young sable but the other was an older bi-black so could be interesting.

56 more days!

Mine is going to be a dark sable! It should be interesting to see the stages of color change.

How exciting . . . you are getting a puppppyyyyyy!

Really interesting... two of them do seem noticeably darker. I've never actually seen a bi-black in Australia, are they very rare here? They all look so sweet. So excited for you.

Are you saying that the breeder bred, intentionally, to one dog and then used a second dog on the same bitch on the same season????? If so, run, don't walk, away from this as this is something that just isn't done. It can happen that an "oopsy" occurs and a second dog gets to the bitch in which case it is understandable. The pups are cute, as pups generally are, but you are also paying for the breeder's long term integrity and support.

If the breeder did that, intentionally or not, then how can you be sure of the genetics? These pups can't be registered then?
