I'm getting a puppyyyyyyyyy!

I think we're related!

I was reading the list of puppies for the year and saw Lizneb, I didn't realise that's where you are getting your pup from. My Deska was from Liz's first litter under her own kennel name (she used to handle and breed for Almaroy). Liz breeds very outgoing, confident, if not a little cheeky, and very cuddly dogs so you'll be really happy.

When you get the pedigree it will be interesting to see if there are any match ups - I met her cheeky young sable boy at a show in Berrima that was Deska's nephew or cousin or something.

New Puppy

Hi!
This is my first post. I have an almost 12 week sable male that I brought home almost 2 weeks ago. He does really well in the crate. Housebreaking is going pretty well but he still has an accident at least once a day(so still can not be trusted on rugs yet).
My biggest challenge with Cooper(that is his name)is that he hates the leash. If I walk backwards holding food, he will walk. Otherwise, he plants himself on his bottom and will not move. He is only 5 pounds and I will not pull on him. any suggestions?
He also likes to bite when he plays but we are working on that. He will turn over to have us rub his belly but will have his mouth open trying to bite. We try to stick a toy in his mouth and this has helped.
We are so in love with this boy!

Welcome to you and Cooper.

Many pups don't initially like the leash. I would suggest that when you are near Cooper and can keep careful attention on him (so he doesn't get tangled or chew on the leash), let him just drag the leash around. Also put it on him for his meals just letting it lay on the floor...so he learns to associate the leash with good things.

As to the puppy nipping, you are doing the right thing by redirecting him to a toy. You can also give a little yelp if he nips you too hard and stop paying attention to him for a minute...letting him know that you didn't like being nipped. Puppies "explore" the world with their mouths, but need to be taught to restrain from hurtful nips.

Glad you and Cooper have joined us on SN. :smile2:

What are the odds! I will definitely let you know, only 11.5 days until pickup! Now that it's so close I'm getting a little nervous just incase I've forgotten something or if I'm not ready but still extremely excited at the same time.

Whichever one has been playing with the tennis ball, pick that one! Ok that would be my choice lol.

CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW PUPPY. YOU WILL DO FINE IM SURE :smile2: I HAVE 2 PUPPIES ONE 16 WEEKS AND ONE 10 WEEKS. EVERY ONE SAID I WAS CRAZY BUT I LOVE IT. GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY THEY DONT STAY LITTLE LONG

3 more days! Feeling excited, nervous and the whole thing doesn't seem real at this point.

I'm going to re-read all the info I have and take a few notes so I feel a little more ready.

Any last minute tips?

And I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for their comments or for even just reading my posts! I know my partner is half sick of me talking about the puppy and we haven't even got her yet, so of course I have to come on here for my Sheltie fix! :hugs
