Inappropriate Ads On SF

I'm not using IE. I'm using safari on the ipad. I also have opendns with settings that block dating sites and inappropriate websites so the ads have nothing to do with my browing history. And as I mentioned I had already opted out of ads from google based on my viewing habits.

Quit using Internet Explorer.

I am using Mozilla Firefox and still get ads for dating sites and I am a premium member, getting less ads.

Why the differance if I may ask?

I'd suggest the same thing, leave internet explorer. I can't speak for chrome but I know firefox has add ons specifically for blocking advertising.

I personally use firefox and have all advertising on all web sites blocked.

It all boils down to the fact that Internet Explorer simply has inferior protection from adware/malware and phishing. You're pretty much leaving your computer open to be attacked if you're using Internet Explorer. I keep thinking Microsoft will improve it but they never do, they only add useless bells and whistles.

But for those who still don't want to leave Internet Explorer, the only way to reduce the ads is by buying a Premium Membership and ignoring the few ads that you still see and to make sure your computer is protected properly by antivirus/antimalware software.

Malwarebytes is good, free software for removing malware that can infect your computer with malicious ads and viruses.

I have always used IE,I do not like chrome, and firefox..well that isn't happining either.

IE is the most insecure of browsers, and is months behind technology-wise.

See how it scores for HTML5 content here: http://html5test.com/results/desktop.html

You can see the other browsers are clustered together, and IE is like my dad who had BETA tapes and held out against CD's for years because "it's a fad". :smile2:

I use Chrome only on Windows machines, and Safari/Chrome/Firefox depending on what I'm doing on the Macs.

I agree about the Explorer problems. I use Firefox on my computer and Safari on my iPhone. I have no problem with ads and only get limited advertising from the sites I already shop at. If you use Explorer, I'd suggest the Premium membership if the ads bother you.

I also am having the same things you both have typed about. I visited a site to send a "free fax"..and now for 2 days that is being generated on my page when I open any thread..its' there.

Did you have to download any software? I'm wondering if it downloaded something for you. If Kelly said there's not slide out ads, then all the ads you're seeing (slide out, black bar ones, etc) are probably from that site. I'd check your computer to see what's running. I bet you have some random thing running that you don't know about and it's causing the ads. "free" things use ads galore and sometimes you can't get rid of the thing....yes, even if you didn't download something yourself, they may have taken it upon themselves to download for you.

I use Firefox when I'm at work so I don't see ads. At home, it's Chrome. Right now, I'm just seeing PetSmart Adoptions.

Hope it can get sorted out for the people seeing inappropriate ads.

It shouldn't be based on what I'm viewing as I have no interest in anything that should pull up that type of ad and because I am opted out of the custom ad program based on web surfing habits.

I just thought of something. If you're opted out for the custom ads based on surfing habits, then it makes total sense why something like that would show up. It's totally just random. It doesn't know you, doesn't care what you want, so voila. Case solved. Now, if Kelly can ban those types of ads, great. If she can't and has no control over what you see, then you'll see everything and anything, including the one you got.

Did that make sense?

That makes perfect sense to me.
