Is there a rescue group in Spokane area?

So sorry that you are going through this. I feel bad for Buddy...but I can definitely sympathize with your situation. You really can't take a chance when you have young children around. Most rescues will not adopt out to people with young children that frequent the house, so hopefully he will be able to find a nice quiet home. I like Randi's idea about have a contract so that he does not end up in a pound.

The idea of a contract sounds like such a good idea. He is so frightened of everything that the thought of him at the pound is unthinkable. He is so afraid of people and noise. I wish that BYBs could be outlawed - not only do the dogs suffer, but the buyers get their hearts broken.

Julie, I've been through a similar situation. We had to rehome a rescue we loved because he attacked our other Shelties. Buddy needs a quiet, one-dog -- and probably one-person -- home. I'll say a prayer that Buddy finds his special place in this world, as every Sheltie deserves. You've been wonderful to help him so much.

Thank you, Chris. It helps to know someone else has had to rehome a Sheltie. The rescue coordinator called this evening and said they will have a foster home by this weekend (she has a Sheltie who is about to have puppies any minute). She said that they will work with Buddy before they adopt him out to make sure the home will be a good fit. It's such a relief - the thought that our older Sheltie will have her home back as well as we will is helping us a lot. It sounds crazy but this little guy has completely worn us out in just 3 1/2 months.

well, you gave it your best shot. I'm glad that you were able to find people to help you out. I'm sure that they will find a good home for Buddy.

I feel so bad for you, Julie. I can imagine that the past few months have been exhausting, and emotional and sad that the outcome you'd hoped for didn't happen. You have done your best though and that's all anyone can do. It sounds like you are on the right track to finding a good home for Buddy. What a difficult choice you've had to make.

Good luck to both you and Buddy. He is still young so his prospects are really good, and no doubt the rescue will have the skills to help him work through his fears.

I do believe there is a right person for every dog and Buddy is now on his journey to find his forever person.

*sniffle*
what a sad post. Good for you to look at all the venues, and that you are going to make sure he gets good caretakers.
I appreciate that you put in so much effort, this way you can be assured you did your best, so don't be hard on yourself... Sometimes it comes to not being able to match what the dog needs.

So sorry you have to give Buddy up but it seems like you have made the best decision for all of you. We have to look out for our little ones be they furry or human. You gave it your best effort.

The rescues do a great job I can't say enough good things about them. The best thing is most of them have it in their contract that if for some reason an adoption doesn't work out the rescue has to be notified and the dog is returned to them so Buddy should never end up in a shelter. The right home is out there for him, and they'll do there best to find it.

Julie, I really admire the way you have showered Buddy with your love and patience. Bless you for being his angel and helping him get the help he needs.
