I care and I think a lot of Americans care or it wouldn't be getting any press. It was a very long time ago, but when he was asked about it recently, he doesn't even apologize or think he did anything wrong. To me that says a lot about his character.

It is similar to people allowing their dog to roam free in the back of a pick-up truck on a highway. I would feel the exact same way if he did that. In a lot of states that is crime. I'm sure crating your dog on the roof of your car would be considered a crime too, but it doesn't happen as often, because most people have more common sense.

I am glad the press digs around people's past. It is their job and I want to know about a person's past, present and future ideas, if they may potentially run the country I live in.

Like I said this is JMO but I get so tired of hearing it played over and over again.I don't agree with what he did and I do not like him but every person in office are you gonna tell they are all pure and lily white?They run our country.I would rather hear something positive going on than this played out till you want to scream!!!!!JMO

Well, I care. I would never vote for him based on this information. And I am glad I shared it with other animal lovers. I think it's an important statement of his character.

There's an old saying that the way one treats the elderly says a great deal about their character. I believe the same is true of the way one treats animals. A person who mistreats animals is not likely to care about people either. I would be mistrustful of a person like this whether it was my next door neighbor or a presidential candidate.

I think this story deserves much more press than it's getting. I wish Ellen DeGeneres would focus on this instead of vegetarian dog food.

Can someone tell me what is the difference between how a politician treats his dogs and how an ordinary citizen lets a dog travel, uncrated and untethered, in the box of a truck at highway speeds or slower, who tethers a dog with a short leash to the roof inside a vehicle, to the extent that if the vehicle stops quickly, the dog slides off the seat and hangs itself? If Mr. Romney was not a politician, this would not be in the news. Think about it.

Whether he's a politician or not, I think it is disgraceful and shows a lack of humanity and compassion. It definitely wouldn't make the news if he wasn't a politician, but since he is, it is important for the voting citizens to know.

The difference between Romney and an ordinary citizen is Romney is is running for president, so it is a very big deal.

Who honestly cares?This was so long ago.I don't like what he did nor do I approve but this was so long ago.It is no worse than the guy who puts his dog free in the back of a truck riding down the highway at 70 miles per hour.The press digs out so much crap from the past.This is JMO.They take one story and that is all you hear on the news and play it over and over again.

Regardless of at what point the "soiling" happened, the dog shouldn't have been riding in a crate strapped to the top of a car. And, if he had to ride on top of the car, why couldn't he be taken down and out, hosed off properly, towel dried and put back.

When I heard this story on NPR a few weeks ago, they said that he pulled off the highway, hosed off Seamus and car then continued on the trip. All I could imagine was the poor dear now scared, cold and wet, in the carrier.
