New Years Trials

Well, today was a 50/50 day. Jackpot (CPE's version of Gamblers) and Snooker were our NQs for today. Handler error in both cases. Heck, in Jackpot I KNEW what I had to do to push him out and still didn't do it. Ah well, guess I need more practice. Snooker, I need to set up my jumps similar to the area we had issues with and try a few things to see how I can better cue the turn we were making.

What did happen this weekend was a FAST EDAN! (Fast for Edan that is.) In some cases he was nearly 10 seconds faster than the 2nd place dog. I'll put more on this in the trial summary I'll post when I post the videos.

Well, we did not fair any better.Sting did well but no Q's.The trial started at 10 am and we signed up for 5 classes and we ran 3 and blew off the last 2 classes. It was a one ring trial and was suppose to be over by 6 the latest and from I heard ended at 930 tonight and the same on Fri. also.

That's crazy! Yesterday we ran 5 classes and were done by 4 pm! Don't blame you for leaving!

Well we just made it back home from Minnesota. (It rained, then froze and the winds were crazy, but we made it home - I knew the weather was going to be bad before I left BUT this was our 1st ever trial so NOTHING was going to stop us)

Well we had a blast I have to say. The people were sooooooooo friendly and supporative, and very accomadating. It was very welcoming, especially for a newbie like me.

So, Friday, Chinook and Maia were entered in 4 runs: Hoopers, Jumpers, Tunnelers and Touch'n'Go.

Chinook got three Q's that day and placed either 1 or 2nd in his class (he was in the 12" skilled division due to his hip) We did not Q in Touch'n'Go because he refused to do the dog walk and would take the tunnel. I tried three times to get him to do the dog walk, and when he still did not, I thanked the judge and took him of the course, so we got an E.

Maia got two Q's that day and placed 2nd in both. She took an extra hoop (hence no Q) right at the end of a clean, beautiful run (I think I might have inadvertantly sent her, but I'm not sure and I had no one taping us so will never know) Then in Touch'n'Go, she would not take the tunnel but would take the dog walk (she has a love affair with the dog walk), so we did not Q there either.

BUT Maia's first ever jumpers run was just beautiful (in my humble opinion - well we did get quite a few compliments on it as we walked back to her crate) "THIS IS WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO FEEL LIKE" I was on cloud nine. The run was smooth, clean and fast. She finished it in just over 18 seconds. We worked as a team. THis was caught on tape I believe so if I can get it I will post it.

Now, day 2. They both had two runs, Jumpers and Touch'n'Go. Chinook Qd both times and placed 2nd and 3rd and Maia, Q'd in Touch'n'Go and dropped a bar in the jumpers run so no Q there (THAT was ALL MY FAULT and I mean ALL my fault) I did a stupid front cross in the wrong place and cut her off and she could not recover in time to take the jump cleanly. Bad mama

Overall, we had a blast for our first time out. And we got pictures!!!!!!! There was a photographer there, so I ordered a CD, and a couple of collages and crate tags too :wink2: Here are the links to their photos if anyone is interested:

OK, ok, I am still grinning from ear to ear. I know not all of our trials will go like this, but I could not have asked for a better start.

(sorry about the long post :uhoh:)

Ania, I was wondering if you made it to Mn . You guys were real troopers to go though that weather to the north. It seemed most of the roads have been closed for days.

Congrats on your Q's and I love your pictures. I always spend way to much money when Great dane photo shows up. I would have like to go and watch since I came back early but after slipping and sliding in from S.D., all I wanted to do was hide in my house. We'll need to met up one day.:smile2:

Ania, congrats on an awesome first show! That's great! And I'm glad you were safe despite the wintery weather.

I have to say that my favorite pictures are the second one of Chinook coming out of the tunnel, and the first one of Maia coming down the a-frame.

Congratulations on such an awesome first show! Chinook and Maia did an outstanding job.

The pictures are fantastic!

I'll tell you, you are braver than me to drive in that weather. I would have pulled my dogs from the trial rather than risk the trip. (Bad, snow/ice, was my biggest concern when I signed up for a New Year's weekend trial.)

Yes, we made it. Thankfully we left on Wednesday evening, so we left Fargo on Thursday morning, because they closed I-94 just past Fargo to just past Alexandria shortly after we drove past there! Otherwise we would have been stuck for 3 days! Then they closed the rest of I-94 and did not open it until Sunday morning! (one part they apparently opened only 1 hour before we drove it! )

I would have loved to meet you. Hopefully one day we will. Minneapolis is not that far for us, so hopefully I will enter other trials there. (besides for now, I prefer to go to trials out of town, so I don't know many people and I will not be as nervous then) I know for sure I will go back next New Years! It was so much fun and I cannot think of a better way to say goodbye to one year and bring in another than being with my babies doing what we love so much! :smile2:
