Question regarding Abby....

Snap is warm from his shoulder blades down the entire back. Feels like a pretty even temp to me.

The twitching that you describe in Abby must be a muscle spasm. I don't know how often you have her worked on, but it sounds like she may due for something. Following the worst reactions to palpation that Snap has had, often the vet will do both an adjustment and acupuncture. Snap gets off the table like a new man.

Are you keeping up massage with her ?

Hi Katherine, Glad to hear Snap is good. Abby could live at the chiropractor. She is warm to sometimes HOT on her back and I put ice on it for a short time. It gets really bad when the temp is above 70. Yes, I still massage her and use the laser but it does get frustrating not knowing if it does any good. I still believe she is dealing w/soft tissue injury, just hiding it very well and that is what is throwing out her back.

Its $90. for her adjustments w/accupuncture. The problem also is with all her vet bills...she has an ongoing ear infection with 2 trips to the vet and another one scheduled for this Sat. It is getting better, slowly.

Shelties are very good at hiding their pain, they are working dogs. My Chandler was hot in the area when he had his spinal stroke and had reaccurring pain. I agree with the others, go with your gut and seek additional help for her.

Sca is fairly cool right now (it is my back that is not) but at flyball he gets warm in places as he does playing ball and frisbee. I figure that is due to working though.

Hope Ms Ellie gets feeling 100% soon.

I'm thinking the chiropractic adjustments and accupuncture are just a temporary band-aid. The problem is deep within I think. Thinking that and convincing the correct people are 2 different things.

I'm not sure what type of vet your vet is....but have you thought about seeking a specialist instead and going that route? Some require referrals though. I would ask around (if you know anyone in the area, or on here) or heck, just go online and see if there's any in your area.

They're expensive, but if your vet doesn't think there's anything wrong, a second opinion won't hurt. Especially if your gut is saying something is wrong.

I'm not at home to feel my pups, but I'd agree with everyone else, my dogs are an even temp all around. Koji will warm up, like Sca, but that's only when we are doing agility and he's "working" all those muscles. Good luck.

Lexi gets those warm spots in her shoulders and once and a while her hip area. I give it a good massage and keep my eye on her. I think they are just sore muscles, because they resolve quickly. A chiropractor would be your best bet.

Cheryl - We have been to vets, orthopedic specialists & Tuft's all say the same. Normal. That's why i'm seeking advice and temps today. We go to get chiropractic adjustments once a month but I feel its just a band-aid to the underlying issue.

Shelties are stoic - don't show pain. I can't check mine until I get home, but I know Emma lies tight to me at night and her whole back feels like a very hot, hot, hot water bottle.

Hope you track down the problem.

Abby

Who are you using for a chiro? There is Bud Allen and Angela-Greko Erikson who comes highly recommended by us agility folks. She is up your way. Also have you thought about Debbie Gross Saunders?

17 views and only 1 response for Abby....really? Abby can't drive herself somewhere to get fixed so I am here for her asking for your help...please?

Probably cause many people, like me, are at work right now. Don't worry you will get more responses tonight.

I will check Kyara when I get home but just by memory, I have only felt hot spots during agility training or the day after. I'll let you know how it feels tonight.
