Question regarding Abby....

I checked...my dogs don't feel warm in any one spot (of course our house is freezing! Had to turn the heat on).

Your last post makes it sound like there is definitely something wrong.

The only time she does not feel warm is when its cold out. There was a time a few months ago when a 19 year old was petting her at night and asked me why she was so hot on her back. When she is "off" she gets hot, so hot i feel i need to put ice on her.

I checked all three of mine. None of them are warm at the shoulder blades, or anywhere else for that matter.

I sure hope you find out what is causing your girl so much pain. I'm sure your heart wanted to break when the doctor told you she'd never seen a dog in so much pain. Is she on any kind of pain killers?

I keep hearing how Shelties hide pain. It makes you really concerned when they show any kind of pain because you know it must be bad at that point.

Poor Abby, I am sorry that she is having problems and hope that you are able to pinpoint the exact problem and find a solution. I checked our 2 here and there are no warm or hot spots on either one.

Checked Mr. Mally and he is not warm to the touch on his back and shoulders. Sometimes his head will be warm. I wonder if that means, possibly, that he has a fever then?

I will keep Abby in my prayers, for her to feel better. Hugs being sent her way.

so we just got back from a new chiropractor and she did adjust her hip area. Did not find anything needing adjustment in her upper back but did feel the heat and said it was unusual. She also did accupuncture and witnessed twitching on all the needles going in. Her comment was " I have never seen a dog with so much discomfort". "She should not twitch on ALL the needles, maybe 1 or 2"
We will go back again next week. Oh, the visit was $213. I work for Abby now.

Glad to hear you did make some progress today though. Sounds like you're on the right track. I hope Abby feels relief soon. It might take a number of sessions though. I know she thanks you

Since Abby's eight years old, have you considered that she might have arthritis? A simple x-ray will determine that, also how bad it is.

My Neechee had bad osteoarthritis in his shoulders and hips for the last 3 years of his life (he died at 17). He always seemed hot in those areas when he was stiff or sore. And I know from myself that arthritic flare-ups can radiate heat like crazy. Ice helps.

I put Neechee on glucosamine chondroitin (people kind) on the advice of my vet. It's supposed to take a month to see any results, but within two weeks, he was back to his normal, perky self. I also kept some doggy asprin around for days when he seemed off.

In my own experience with both osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis, chiropractic didn't do any good at all - if the joint is bone-on-bone, it could even injure her! Accupuncture is a better bet, in my opinion.

Hope she improves and you can find the right treatment for her.

Abby is only 2.5 years old. This has been an ongoing problem fro almost 2 years. She is taking dasuquin. Asprin is not recommended by my vet. I do ice her frequently.
