Sadie is suddenly paralyzed

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes.

I've left Sadie at the vets to be examined. Last night was a bad night for them, as the majority of the emergencies at the emerg clinic all go to my vet. She was already performing and emerg. surgery this morning when we brought Sadie in early.

I'll send and update as soon as I hear something.

I'm going to order some Vibrant Pets in hopes that will help her heal and maybe aleave some of her discomfort, if she's having any.

I guess I'd get the joint and muscle formula then, since it says it helps dogs recovering from injury and reduces swelling and increases mobility?

Oh Melissa, this is terrible. I'm so sorry to hear about Sadie. She was the one attacked by the dumb Doodle a couple days ago. I can't remember if it was her or Ginny. I wonder if something was injuried then. A disk or something.

The spinal stroke are this

We do see them in Shelties.

Sending big prayers that medication will help her and she will make a full recovery.

Thanks for the article, I didn't have time till now to read it.

I'm a little upset by some of the thing I read. I was only given the option of driving to a veterinary hospital two hours away. I was told that x-rays and blood work would not show anything, where as the article says that spinal stroke can be diagnosed using both. I also read that there is a steroid that can be administered in the first 6-8 hours after the injury that can lessen the damaged caused, another option that I was not offered. I brought her in within a half hour of her collapse! :uhoh:

As if I'm not upset enough already, the emerg clinics ignorance may have caused Sadie permanent damage. The vet specifically told me that only an mri or ct scan were needed, not blood work or x-rays. :(

I don't know yet whether its affected her bladder function. She's definitely not having incontinence issues, she hadn't gone since last night, but maybe that means she's unable to go at all?

We're supposed to be leaving for up north in two days. So much for my much needed vacation. I still plan on bringing her, I really don't have a choice since no one would be able to look after her with her special needs. On the plus side I'll be able to do lots of walking and swimming with her. Thank goodness she has a life jacket.

I contacted Sadie's breeder, who was also very upset to hear about Sadie. Wonderful lady that she is, she offered to fully refund us the money for Sadie's purchase, so that we could put it toward vet bills, even though Sadie has no actual genetic defects. DH and I have talked about it and don't feel this is an option, as its in no way her fault, but we deeply appreciate her generous offer.

Ah man. That is just terrible! I am so sorry! I seriously think I would die if that happened to one of my dogs! Do you think maybe it is possible that she went to the bathroom when you weren't looking? Is she still unable to move?

No, she did not go when I was not looking. She is able to move, just not walk. Her front legs and neck are stiff and don't move properly. she has very little control of her back end, although she can stand. One hind leg barely works at all.

The triggerfish?! So you are having to carry her so she can even get around?! :eek2: That is worse than I thought. I guess I misunderstood. I thought she was able to walk some, but that her back leg was bothering her.
