I also forgot to ask about his leg! Where they shaved his leg to put the iv in you can see his skin. He hasn't been outside very much, because he gets too excited and hops about. Should I cover his leg up when we go outside, and if so, with what? I don't want him to get sunburn. :uhoh:
 
I would limit his sun exposure, especially between 10 and 3. Some meds, esp antibiotics, trigger sun sensitivity.
 
Oh Jessica! I just read this thread! Poor Smudge. I've been away from a computer and just now catching up on everything. I hope he will be OK. I cannot believe what he has gone through already. I have never heard of 'mange' so I will have to look it up. I hope like the others said, that the dip will clear it up. I know, meds are soooo expensive.
I am sure that he will be fine sleeping in his crate for a couple of nights. I feel so bad for you Jessica. Smudge is so very lucky to have you as his mom. Reading all this, just shows how much you love and care for him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and him.
 
I don't think that putting a puppy training pads in Smudge's crate is a very good idea. The whole point of keeping him in his crate is to teach him not to go to the bathroom in his crate. Is'nt it possible to find 1 room he can stay in where he can't damage much of anything? You could put his food & water on one side, and his puppy training pad on the other side of the room. My prayers to St. Francis for you and Smudge.
 
Or how about an exercise pen? That way you can put his crate in there so he can sleep, and the training pads. But this way they are not IN his crate. That is how I read to train puppies when they are young if I was away for a long time. (it was in a well known puppy training book)

A puppy pen is a great idea. I still use my puppy pen alot. It is useful when we are visiting people and they will let the dogs inside but only in a particular area, or if we stay in a motel, and for time out and I'll take them with me to dog comps. I have the metal panels that fold up so they can be easily carried in the car. But you can also get some really groovy ones.
 
I just got back from vacation and saw this. Poor little guy has been through so much. :( He's so lucky to have you to love and care for him.
 
I missed this and I am so sorry for Smudge and you. It is very hard to see your kid suffering and not being able to be with them. We will be thinking of you and Smudge.
 
Well, I came home today, and this was what I found:

I should have known better. He'll only be alone for just one more night (tonight) and then either me or my sister will watch him. Concerning the surgery he seems to be doing ok, but his eye is worse. It's spreading. Here's a picture of his eye:

It's the paet closest to his mouth. He has some darker markings on his face, but that is not a marking. It's pinkish and purple in color. After I get paid again and some of the vet bills slow down I will serisouly consider a puppy pen.
 
Oh my!

Looks like the piddle pad got the worst end of that tustle.I never had any luck with them either.They always just found it a fun thing to drag,toss,chew.What does the vet say about his eye? I mean,in the picture it looks no better.Wonder how long it will take for it to subside?.His eye is still looking quite red where he has lost his hair.Poor guy & poor you.

I know my son & wife worked 3rd shift for quite some time after they brought thir Lucy home.She was a crated dog,all night,every night.It has'nt only been in the last year 1/2, that she has been trusted to be out of a crate. But mostly that was due to them "thinking" she could'nt be trusted. She never has been a distructive dog,but they just felt she needed to be in one place every night.

I'm sure it was a case of pure boredom.He's a puppy,that was having a great time. One day..you'll have a good giggle over that picture~
