Sketch video...moving well :)

This is not a great video, blurry, but it shows how well our Sketchie is doing on 3 legs just 5 weeks post his amp surgery. He still gets tired very easily, but he is so happy to be pain-free and with time and a careful exercise routine his stamina will get better and better! :smile2: Now if some fur will just hurry up and grow to cover that hip area before the snow and bitter cold get here...or we may need to fashion a butt coat for him for this upcoming winter! :lol:

PS...the stop/search Sketch does in the middle of the video is because I feed "my" 3 resident crows cut up PB sandwiches every morning in that area and Sketch is searching for left over sandwich crumbs.

Amazing :) He has a little hop now, but seriously, once his fur grows back it will be hard to tell he is missing a leg! Even in that video, there were times I couldn't tell and I was looking.

Sketch has a gorgeous coat, btw :biggrin2:
 
That video just made me cry with happiness!

I am just so amazed at Sketchie's progress. He is moving so fluidly!

Just warms my heart! Give him a HUG and KISS on the snout from me!

Gloria, basically I just meant being very careful not to let him overdo. We are now up to 3 short walks (about 1/4 mile each) daily and slowly we will continue to add distance, hill work, etc. Sketch used to love to run full tilt in our 2 acre fenced field where we play our doggie ball and Frisbee games. For now that level of all out running, turning and jumping are out until his remaining legs have added the extra strength/balance needed to support him without risking injury. The injury I would fear most if he was too active, too soon, is an ACL tear on that remaining back leg. Long term I think he will safely be able to play pretty hard again...it will just take time.

Snout kiss and hug delivered and Sketch says a doggie "thank-you". :smile2:

Thanks, Cindy. Yes...the "hop" is very obvious when he is not running...the faster he moves the less obvious it becomes...but slow motion walking is very "hoppy" and I suspect it may always be that way with only 3 legs.

Sketch looks wonderful, Trini. I can't believe the progress he's made in such a short time. What terrific recovery he's had with your care. Good boy, Sketchie!
 
Ann, thank-you...yes he is a good boy...and a very gentle soul. I was honestly worried that he might be too gentle to handle the trauma of the surgery and the initial pain/confusion post surgery...but he has risen to the challenge with such strength of spirit. I am super proud of my big blue boy. :smile2:

Your Sketch looks amazing and looks to be doing very well on 3 legs, like Trini I was looking for the back leg and when he is walking away from you, the fur covers in well. With your excellent mommy care, he will be back to full "Sheltie" in no time. Good luck for continued, speedy and complete recovery. :fl :hugs
 
Trini - How nice to see how well it goes with Sketchie and how happy he looks - once he gets his great coat so I think no one will notice it.

There is no doubt your loving care, and his faith in you, has helped him so far. :hugs
