For whatever reason, your video won't play on my computer, but I just wanted to comment that I am so glad he is doing well and progressing positively. He's such a fighter!
 
Wow Trini, He is doing great and as others have said once he gets his coat back you will hardly notice. I know you are so very proud of him.
He is surely a lovely boy!
 
Aww he is doing so great. Sketch has a gorgeous coat! Pretty soon when his
coat returns in that area you won't even hardly notice that leg is missing. The
video is fantastic and Sketch has adjusted so well. Good going Trini!!!

Again, I thank-you all for your kind comments. Although I hope no one on SN ever has to go through the decision to amputate, I do hope should that choice ever need to be considered that they will take heart from seeing how well our Sketchie is adjusting to life on 3 legs. And, most importantly, that he is still a happy boy who loves life in spite of what he has had to go through.

Cindy, Sketch says he would love a party...even from 3,000 miles away. :smile2:

Trini, I am just getting around to watching this and am amazed! What a strong, resilient, handsome man you have there! :yes:
 
Thanks all :)...yes he is a very resilient BIG boy...I had been concerned he might get depressed and did see a tiny bit of this the first week post surgery...but some of that may also have been a side effect of the pain meds. Sketch weighed 37 pounds pre-surgery and now weighs in at just under 34 pounds minus that back leg.

We have hit a bump in the recovery road this week. His incision area which had healed up beautifully suddenly became swollen and broke out in puss topped round sores...emergency vet trip dx'd a staph infection. Scraping done and sent off to determine what strain and therefore what antibiotic will have the best chance of getting it under control. Our vet said they are seeing more and more staph infections that no longer respond to the typical antibiotics that used to knock out the infections. Right now he is on Smz-Tmp (a hard hitting antibiotic) until the strain he has can be id'd, but each day new puss topped circles are still appearing even with this antibiotic. So, this may be a tough fight to get under control and poor Sketchie has the dreaded E-collar back on to make sure he doesn't lick the incision area and make matters worse than they are.

Very discouraging when he had been doing so super well...but we will get past this. He is keeping up his spirits in spite of this set back...he is such a good boy. :smile2:

Oh poor sketch!

I am so bummed for him! Hope they can identify the strain soon!

He needed to heal ... Hope this becomes a minor setback and the road to full recovery is granted to your sweet boy soon! Stay strong for him!
