Southern Snow

Same here….most bridges here have signs saying bridges can be icier than roadways. I tend to slow down as I approach a bridge…years ago I was going over a bridge and on the downward portion I just tapped the brakes to slow down and I did a 180. Amazing that I didn’t hit anything but ended up pointed in the opposite direction although still in my lane :ROFLMAO:. I have a fear of bridges now lol!
we have those signs too- my original goal was to live somewhere that didn't have those signs and when I was in FL, I had that......
sounds like you were very lucky on your bridge adventure:yes:

Never tap brakes on a bridge. Actually never alter speed is the best. If you slow do it BEFORE the bridge but once on it hold steady. Generally the best thing is to do nothing until you are across. Used to be you could engine brake to drag the back a little but with front wheel drive that is gone so steady is best, engine braking could actually make the back want to come around.

Yes I’ve definitely learned that! The other day roads were so icy and going around a curve I could feel the car sliding…I just took my foot off the gas as let it slowly reduce speed. I remember YEARS ago (probably when I first started driving) my sister told me never brake on a curve or when turning and LOOK in the direction you want to go. Personally with our road conditions here I think everyone (myself included) should have to take a defensive driving course. I was just lucky I think years ago on that bridge, I instinctively knew what to do I guess when I saw that guard rail coming towards me. I ended up in my same lane at the end as well lol.

Bizarre thing is with a front wheel drive car light acceleration might even be beneficial. That way you apply a slight pull on the rear end keeping it inline. Differently but all this applies to race bikes plus some (having 2 wheels adds more dynamics variables)
