Thundershirts

hmm interesting...several years back (06) I tried put a service dog vest on Molly, since she was going into nursing homes to visit and noticed almost immediately a difference in her personality. She was much calmer, confidant, etc...hmmmm maybe I should order one for her, since she is terrified of thunderstorms to the point where she will squish herself behind the toilet and just pant..she also had a horrible experience with thunder when she was 6 months old our house was hit and it was by far the loudest thing I ever heard!!:eek2:

Thundershirt is a Success

I posted this in Toby's thread as well but thought it should be here too.

I accidentally ordered the wrong size for Ginny but Toby's Thundershirt seems to be working well. He wasn't overly anxious last night but I put it on him anyway and he was MUCH calmer. He actually cuddled on the couch with a friend of mine for almost 2 hours, which I've never seen him do. Even when he wasn't on the couch with her, he was quietly lying on the floor at our feet and not charging around every time someone got up. I left it on him all night and this morning when he heard my husband get up and go outside, he did not go into his usual barking panic, he didn't even move.

Since he's quiet in his crate I took it off of him and put it on Ginny. She seems MUCH more settled than usual, even with Rescue Remedy she has trouble settling down for the day.

I'm so pleased to have found these solutions for both Toby and Ginny, I feel like I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. :smile2:

I'm really interested in the result factor too? I ordered one yesterday...got the medium size for Baron. He probably could have used a small, but the medium gave a little leeway. He's at a 22 inch chest measurement, and 23 - 24 lbs. What size did you order and what are your "kids" measurements?

FYI...one of our biggest "games" is when I vacuum. Before I ordered the Thundershirt, I tried putting on the car harnesses just to see if any difference? They usually seem calmer when they have to wear them. Well, Baron never barked ONCE and was the perfect boy. There was a difference with Rookie & Spring, but after I took out the attachment....they couldn't handle that! haha.. Anyway..Baron stayed the calm and good boy so I thought I'd order the vest. It looks more comfy, and is a more "complete" vest which could make the results even better. I should have it just in time for New Year's Eve fireworks <sigh>..

Toby has a 22" chest and weighs 25 lbs. I definitely ordered the right size, its the perfect length around his chest, but is a little short along the back for him (Toby is very long). But if I had ordered a size M, I think I would have had trouble getting it tight enough, so I'm happy with it the way it is.

She is looking pretty anxious right now. Maybe she hears someone coming home.

They probably heard the kids coming home from school. Sadie isn't in her bed any more and Toby is looking around too. Its just over 10 minutes later and she's already going back to sleep. She's usually spin in her crate and look around for a half hour or more.

I can't believe that she's back to sleep, she gets overly excited REALLY easily and it usually takes her ages to calm down when she's on her own.

OH gosh.. Now I'm a little worried about the sizing ;-). My guys pretty hairy. Maybe that will help.

For those of you on your computers before 5pm EST, here are my pups. Ginny is in the middle, wearing the Thundershirt. She usually has a hard time settling in her crate, but she's been sleeping all day.

She looks pretty content with it on, and it looks good on her! ;) I wonder if having it on the one that is the most "reactive" will in turn help the other's to calm down some too...but without one?
