That's great! Who would have thought that something so simple would have such a huge impact on our pups. It really seems like it should be a scam but works so well!
 
Wow! Those are incredible results you guys! I had to laugh with the hammer, drill and dremmel all going. If you'd only turned on the vacuum..but you might have needed a doggy psycologist then! haha.. Baron also goes nutso when the mailman drops off the mail out in the entry..not even a slot that comes into the house. Of course, the mail hasn't come yet now that I'm waiting for it. I've gotta say too that the barking in my house is down to a minimum now. Wish my kids were still little as I'd put it on THEM! haha..

Oh my gosh!

It's really strange,I do not get reactions at all with vacumn cleaners,any thing that has a motor or makes a noise with any of these guys here.

What does drive them crazy is wheelbarrow,when Brian brings wood in.It has got so poor Brian can't move front,back or anywheres,as Trapp & Jasper have the thing covered.So now they are left in,while he is out bringing wood in.

Other than that,I don't have barking alot of barking either.Mia barks more than the two shelties put together.And I think she does it out of pure enjoyment,she must feel the vibrations. Although not often,she does have a piercing bark. I thank heavens she barks to let us know she needs to potty,it makes things so much easier on us.

Still,I continue to research as much as I can,I have even written Victoria Stillwell,although it is highly doubtful I would ever get a response. But it was worth a try.As we continue in our efforts to communicate with Mia.

As you Melissa,I thought how can something so very simple,possibly work. it's genious really.They do work.

I'm anxious to find out,how Eric's one chihuahua (Lexie) is doing with hers.I did put Mia's on her while they were here.I have to say,within minutes Trapp & Jasper were only within 12" or so from Lynn,while she held on to Lexie.And Lexie never bolted,showed teeth,or agression towards my two.

Lynn was stunned to see the reaction.While Lexie had it on,I went and got some treats,and my clicker,and I worked with Lexie on some positive reinforcment.She reacted well,and got the hint.

I do feel with not only the shirt,one must implement also positive training,if the need arises.In Lexies case,she needed the treats to help put it together.
 
Oh yes...very good point. Positive training does need to go hand in hand here with the thundershirts. They seem to give good opportunities to do just that. Tonight, there were some ducks flapping around in water on the television. Baron started reacting...jumping up to reach the t.v. as he does when certain animals show up there. Guess he thinks they're real? (lol) Anyway, I got up and put on his Thundershirt and praised him for being a good boy with it on.. Next time the ducks came on...a couple minutes later...I noticed he didn't react at all..just watched. Weird! He got some positive reinforcement for his efforts ;-)
 
Fireworks..and reactions?

Well I thought I would ask,for those of you that were near or possibly doing fireworks,how did your pups do with Thundershirt on?
 
Happy New Year! Well? It was kinda hard to tell. He definitely didn't panic, bark, or shake...but he did prefer to go to his little "Bearcave" in the bathroom which is where he always likes to sleep though.

I do think there is definite changes in him when it's on...but I do believe it's similar to when he wears his car harness. This morning, I put the TS on Rookie because he's a compulsive barker at the vacuum. Baron started acting up, so I put his car harness on him. Made NO difference to Rookie at all..still bark, bark, bark...herd, herd, herd. With Baron's car harness on him, there was absolutely NO barking, no herding....nada! Complete perfection! So...I'm wondering if it's more of a similar effect as what's been said about putting on a therapy dog vest..and how it gives them the idea of it being time to settle down...focus.."work" in their minds ;-). Then again..made no difference to Rookie. Maybe Rookie simply resists work! haha..
 
Thundershirt

A Petvalu store just opened in my area and guess what they are selling? Thundershirts! I got one for Sandy and he really likes it (he's a size medium).

The first few times I put it on him he fell asleep. I did the conditioning first (treat on it, treat hidden inside it, treat when it's on, treat when it comes off) for a few days before trying it in a car ride. He now wags his tail just at the sight of the shirt.

He's now been on a few car rides with it on (and half his normal dose of gravol) and he didn't throw up! He pants like crazy (that's new) but I think he's doing that to help keep it down. Hopefully I won't jinx it by saying this but I think it's a success!
 
Helped Toby with his fear of Thunder

Now that the weather is getting better I've found another phobia of Toby's. I can't say that I'm all that shocked that he's afraid of thunder, but I feel so badly for him. Even at the faintest hint of thunder sent him into hysterics.

I was amazed at how much the thundershirt calms him down. Instead of running around and barking hysterically he was able to sleep on the end of our beds. He was still bothered by it but MUCH less so.

The thundershirt also helped Ginny with what appears to be separation anxiety. She'd started peeing in her crate when we left her alone but the problem has completely stopped since we started putting the thundershirt on after we left her. What a wonderful invention! :smile2:

There'll be fireworks at the end of may for Victoria Day, so I'll see then how it helps Toby and Ginny. I can only assume that fireworks will scare Toby and I know they usually upset Ginny.
 
I brought a thundershirt at the National for Molly, she hears fireworks (or another loudish noise) and would try to kill her self to get back into the house. Dont you know since she has been spayed shes been a slightly different dog and less on edge, so sounds dont seem to bother her too much.... tonight my neighbors had a huge dumptruck come and drop off loam for their yard it banged soo loud but she didnt freak, she just stood there and barked (which I think is an improvement:lol::rolleyes2:)..
Cant wait to put the shirt on her and she how she does...
