thanks for all your replies.. I took the collar off this morning and only plan on using it at night as I am home all day and can keep an eye on her.. she did manage to get the collar off last night, put both her front paws on either side of it and pushed it off.. pretty smart! so I tightened up the ties and it stayed on the rest of the night..
 
In lue of the cone, I picked up one of the Inflatable Collars (http://www.petco.com/product/100555...aspx?CoreCat=LN_Shopping_DogSupplies_FirstAid) for Edan when he had a cyst removed from his side in December.

Yes, its a little expensive compared to the cone but what I LOVED about it was (1) he didn't try to take it off; (2) he didn't walk into things; (3) he could eat and drink with it on; (4) he could sniff around to get his 'pee-mail' :lol:; (5) he was able to sleep with it on.

A normal flat-buckle clip collar threads through the inside to hold it on. A velcro tab holds it closed on the outside. The outside of the inflatable collar is vinyl so you can wash it easily.

The only down side, it looks like they're wearing a doughnut instead of a cone of shame.

thanks for your reply.. that collar is interesting, but I think I like this one better.. hopefully it is available at the store I do business with.

How cute is she in Mom's shirt!! I'm getting my fixed this weekend and I'm putting a onsie on Lily lol. If they usually sleep in a crate at night, what should I do about them wearing their cone? I don't think they'd fit in the crate with the cone, but maybe?

I guess it depends on how big the crate is.. the cone is 1" longer than Belle's head from neck to snout. Never thought of a onesie, that is a great idea!

we bought one of those soft cones from Tysol, but I didn't like it so husband is taking it back. There would still be no way she could eat or drink with it on, plus it was black so she could not see through it.. and the ties were elastic and would stretch.. no doubt they work for some, but I didn't want to chance it.
 
Emma never really bothered her stitches, and I didn't use the cone on her. The problem was keeping her quiet - a lost cause. Liam, I didn't use the cone on more than 15 min at the absolute most. He didn't like the incision, just washed off the pink antiseptic they used - he did not like it at all. Again, the problem was keeping him quiet. I gave up after a couple of days and they had no problems.
