Trick Challenge #1-March to the Music

Sophie, great progress! Merlin is doing so well. You are doing a great job at clicking those high-lifts, I find it hard to see the legs under Kyara's big collar . I really like the fact that you can see him taking his time to lift the right leg at a good height.

As for Cadbury, even though his attention span seems shorter than during your first sessions, you can see he understands the trick very well. They are both looking great!

Thank you Meldor, I have the same thing with seeing Merlin's paws! Actually that is why his movements are so pronounced, because I could not see the lesser movements, so he had to make them big to get me to see them:lol:

Yes Cadbury has lost focus, being outside doesn't help either, he gets so distracted. He really needs to be challenged to keep him going and, right now, he has decided he gets the paw lifts and repeating them is just boring.

Lahree, I hope your mum is feeling better.

Wow , did some training ouside and Sally was way unfocused !!! We usually do our training at the same time everynight and when i deceided to practice while we were outside she was downright balky about it. Never had THIS before. We had been playing fetch mixed in with some tug and I'm sure she knew I didn't have any treats with me . And now i need to train Sally the stand command and i have no idea how to do THAT...how much more time do we have left ? :confused2:

End of the month is 4 days. I think I am doomed. Birch is focusing alittle better but he is not making progress. On the other hand he now has a new fun game to play when he is trying to get my attention. He paws with 1 foot and then the other and if I don't ackknowledge him he jumps at me and bats me with boths paws like he was digging to CHina.:rolleyes2::mad: Who's idea was this trick training anyways? Criminal Mind indeed.

I teach stand by luring with a treat into a stand and then clicking. As its not my favourite position to teach I go for simple and easy to teach it (ie, a tasty treat).

Dogs very often associate their training with a specific place and when that place changes it takes them a while to 'get' that they train here too.

Now everyone, please don't worry. You don't have to stop teaching 'march' at the end of May, you carry on while trying out the new trick, and perfect it as you go along:wink2: The results thread will be just to see where you are now.

Currently if I get four paw lifts from Cadbury I am pleased!

Will be working outside, in the sweltering heat , STANDING , and MARCHING , with melting cheese today

Sca can almost shake with both paws so we did gain a bit. Spitfire is hard to train and a wildman so he can't even shake with one paw (though he does pull a wheelie well) Of course our focus was still on Flyball where Sca has improved and socialization where Spitfire made a MONSTER jump at the last tournament and was even going up to strangers

can't say my girls would win any prizes, but we sure had fun doing this. Kayla especially
looking forward to next trick !!! this is such a great idea, and i love the fact i get very good ideas on how to teach and train

Ok, here's where we are at, at the end of May! (I'm about half a day ahead)

Romeo totally got it.. I think the fact that he's kinda slow moving helped keep him in one place for the most part.

Juliet on the other hand, will try to get my feet! But she's doing a good job of keeping her paws off me. She just needs to stay still!

This was fun! I'm going to keep working on this trick, but can't wait for June's Trick Challenge!

Incidentally, were we supposed to post the final vids somewhere else?
