Trick Challenge #1-March to the Music

With the recent Diva going into season thing, Birch's brain has fallen out. He was doing 5-6 air waves now he can't focus for 2 seconds. Sucks to be a teenage boy.:(

I would be interest in completing for the prize in the future

We're now getting alternate feet touches, but how do I start progressing onto simply lifting feet? He's so quick I don't have a chance to mark for a foot lift before contact is made. I tried lifting my feet higher but he just reaches higher:wink2:

This is exactly where I was at with Kyara before this video (http://youtu.be/Lue3fDqsOMU)

What I did was asked her to sit/stay and then I very gradually increased the distance between me and her. This helped give me more time to click before she touched me. Now she can do it at 2 feet away from me but I started out at just 2 or 3 inches away and increased slowly.

Now since I added distance I'm having a problem getting more lifts. She'll do 2 or 3, then she gets up and/or continues giving me lifts from only one paw or simply runs towards me to put both feet on my legs. Any suggestions to get more lifts? :confused2:

So will this challenge continue for next month or will it be something different? Forgive me if I am repeating a question or not finding the answer in the thread.
I have already got a plan for June:wink2:

With paw touches, i have now started moving backwards as i 'march' so that when he reaches for my foot he doesn't always touch it.

My trainer spotted me practicing the other day at agility and said 'he's got that one.' Now I need to add in my cue.

Remember the basic challenge is to get your dog to march and if he is doing that with foot touches, that's ok.

Now, the next question, has everyone picked their marching music?:wink2:

Kyra is a star, look at those paw lifts! To get more lifts I would just be very patient and first ask for three before a click, then ask for four, by that point I found my two were happy to repeat the lifts as many times as I asked (sort of).

She is liable to get frustrated at first because "I ain't getting clicked no more!" and will try different things to experiment and see what works. You just need to hang in there and when she offers the slightest extra foot lift click.

Also, i wouldn't worry about putting her into a 'sit' anymore, she is clearly happy lifting her feet standing and I would now begin encouraging that.

She is doing really well!:smile2:

Sally will give 4 touches or so on each side- sometimes seated, sometimes standing so we are making progress. Just need to get her standing all the time.

Thank you Sophie! :smile2: I will wait longer for her to figure out I want more lifts before clicking. Thanks for the advice.

I'll also move onto having her standing as long as I can keep a bit of distance between me and her.

Justicemom, hopefully Birch's brain comes back! I thought adolescence was a tough part but I only had one female adolescent pup... couldn't imagine having a male at peak adolescence with an intact female in heat plus the rest of your pack . He must be draining your energy! Good luck :wink2:.

Thanks I am a bit more relaxed now that I understand why he is acting so deranged. I am trying to think of ways to burn off his energy as Diva usually plays with him all night and now they can't be together. Right now its not that there is any danger under supervision but I like his face to much to let him near Diva. You leave the in season girls alone until they are ready or you will have some new ventilation. A lesson Justice learned a long time ago. Justice doesn't even care until they are in standing heat but I take no chances so baby gates and crates are a way of life right now.

I don't know why I didn't think of this before (moving my feet away) but I started this last night in between agility runs and I think it will work for Lexi.

ACK! Feel like I'm running out of time! (But yes, I've got the music down...if we ever get there!)

I take this as a No then.

I counted a total of 7 people interested. I think it's hard because several people are overseas.
