Trick Challenge #1-March to the Music

Took some vids of the boy's training. Cadbury is uber enthusiastic and I have bruises on my thighs now!

Haha they are doing so well. I think I am going to switch to Birch touching my feet. I think that will be easy to transition to the leg cues. My knee are too high for him to reach and my feet are too low for me to reach. I was wondering how I was going to make that transition. So you just tap their paws with you foot to start them?

Second, Holy Moly does Birch look like Merlin in color! :biggrin2: He is that dark blue color too and they even have the blaze and one solid leg thing going too(though on opposite sides). But Birch acts more like Cadbury in the video trying to figure this thing out.

Did a session tonight with part of Birch's dinner, he got touching my leg quickly. He decided that he could touch my shin but not my foot. It was much easier to handle the clicker food this way and he was far less squirrelly when I was standing straight up then leaning over. I guess he is used to seeing me that way for agility and obedience. Leaned over is playing.

Labgirl, too cute.Merlin and his play bow and Cardbury licking your hand, and he is really concentrating. Excellent video to watch dog body language/thought process. Thanks. Wish I was more techno savy...i still haven't posted my pics !!!

Thank you, we still have a long way to go, so don't worry!

Justicemom - yes I did just start with placing a finger on my foot, but Merlin is used to doing 'touchs' to things he is offered, so that helped.

I checked out Birch's picture again and talk about separated at birth! He is literally a mirror image! How odd when you think how random their colouring can be!

And random, but I guess I forget that you are British. I adore your accent!
Lol! My country girl Suffolk accent! People can actually tell the exact town I come from by my accent, which is scary!

Here's where we are at now.

The early training bits are fast forwarded but there's a short bit for each of them showing in real time where they are at now.

You can see from the video that I had a much easier time with Romeo compared to Juliet!! There was alot of unnecessary movement from her and she liked to put both paws on my foot (I got tired from balancing and standing and got a chair!). And because she didn't really get the one paw on one foot concept I tried to put my hand on my foot, and even tried to entice her by wriggling my foot around.

Took a few sessions but we're at alternating feet. Right + Left then Treat. Adding more steps slowly!

I am thinking that I would also need to try and get some distance from them soon? Thinking maybe I can have them behind a play pen fence or a bar on the floor, and making them keep behind the line so I can "march" in front of them and they stay in place away from me. :confused2:

I had to update you guys. Granted, I'm sure he'll forget it by Sunday. I gave up sitting down because he kept pawing me, so I stood up. I tapped his paw with my foot, c/t. After awhile, I started picking my foot up, repeatedly until he did the same with his, c/t.

I got 4 marches from him. C/t and tons of treats. I tried it again, but he kept barking at me, so I tapped my foot c/t and ended it there. I'm impressed. Lots of work to do though.

I think I killed his brain though. We worked on 4 different things last night. Hehehe.

Romeo's coming on well! I haven't done anything since Thursday with agility practice and beach walks. Gave the boys a brain break.

We are still workin on it too. She gives me consecutive leg lifts but wants to sit down. Not sue where to go with that. Emma ,the dog at work is doing well, but i can still only get about 4 lifts from her. Both girls are very motivated and are trying very hard to earn their treats and praises. I wonder if marching music would help?!!:biggrin2:

I would start moving backwards so to reach your foot or hand she has to stand and follow. Or, if she has a 'stand' command start giving that first and then ask for the lift and only reward lifts performed while in a stand.
