Well Newton is very easy to love. Alan calls him the "perpetual puppy." He feels like he has reached a good weight for his frame now, his butt and spine no longer feel boney. We'll weigh him later tonight and see what the grand achievement is!! I also want to weigh Emma as she has definitely packed on the pregnancy pounds. I'm more than a bit concerned that Emma is showing so much so EARLY! I have horrific nightmares of 20 puppies.....:eek2::dead::eek2:

Ooooh! 20 puppy Sheltie TV! Now that's something to look forward to!

Ugh, don't tempt fate! Emma's body didn't noticeably change until the last 7 or so days with the 9 pups...and then she hit 50 lbs from her usual 26 or 27 and delivered 9 puppies. She looks so BIG already with this pregnancy and we still have 20 days to go!

My friend Rottweiler did that with her last litter. She was so much bigger, much earlier. She only had 3 puppies but the puppy that was lowest (first born) was the largest as big as the other 2 combined. I wonder if that is what caused her to look so big. :confused2:

At the weighing in ceremony tonight Emma topped the scales at 39 lbs and Newton was the lightweight at his all-time-high score of 10 lbs even.

Oh my. I don't know any thing about puppies. Do you have to take Emma in for an ultrasound? I saw that they did that with Airdales on "Breed all About it".

US is an option, but one I probably won't do unless she starts showing symptoms. As long as she is progressing with a normal pregnancy we wait and see how many puppies arrive.

With Sasha, she had trouble delivering Trapp and so they Xrayed after they pulled Trapp to see how many pups were left and if they were positioned right.

if you are worried about number/size of puppies I would go with having an x-ray done prior to her givng birth. Ultrasounds are neat to see, but they really dont tell you if the pup is going to fit through the birth canal like an x-ray.
